When MM was first on the scene (well maybe a few years after he was first), he claimed a source with Atlanta. It would be weird for that person to still be there.

If he took his twitter down over that I'm surprised it hasn't happened before. It's not the first time he's given specifics like that on potential deals that seem to be in consideration. Atlanta must really want BI and/or Herb to care this time.

I would call it engagement farming but his account is gone so we at least now know the basic ask from the Hawks perspective

For the folks who didnt see:

Its

Pels: Murray, Hunter, #1
Hawks: BI and Herb

He also claimed they covet Herb the most, more than BI

That's not a bad offer but man I love Herb so much and he is so valuable to the team and fan base that we can't trade Herb unless for a legit superstar

I would imagine that Griffin would tell them to keep their pick and we keep Herb. Hunter is a salary dump, so I imagine he would make a play for Okong or Capella with a young player not named Herb or Trey involved.

May not work out if both teams covet Herb that much

I put #1, but clearly it would be Sarr

So the trade is:

Murray, Hunter, Sarr
BI, Herb

If that trade were executed our starting 5:

Sarr
Zion
Trey
CJ
Murray

Jose
Hawk
Hunter
Dyson
Larry

I would hate to lose herb but i mean that's pretty good value. Hunter is a good shooter, he's overpaid but he's decent. Draft Sarr at #1 and you solve the center position

Murray, Hunter, Trey, Zion, Sarr with CJ off the bench as a 6th man is interesting. Very long with a lot of shooting.

This would require a little foresight but Hunter's Salary could be used to get another big fish at the trade deadline that fits the Pelicans needs.

Something like Hunter + Larry gets you 32.8 Million in tradeable salary.

You also still have CJ's salary.... wait a minute. I am talking myself into this.

Herb becomes a lot less necessary if you're getting Murray and a defensive center back, which Sarr would be.

Sarr floor is a JA clone. Ceiling is a JA clone that can shoot a 3 at a respectable clip.

This is a shitty draft and Sarr is talented but raw as hell, not sure he will be able to be a full time starter on a good team year 1.

I'm not a scout or close to it though. I saw a couple of clips and read some opinions

Where would Herb go in this draft knowing what we know now?

He's already 25 but that white dude from Tennesee is pretty old and some have him top 10.

Honestly, given the position the Pels are in, I would take Herb over the #1 pick in this year's draft. He is proven and on a friendly contract that is actually less than the #1 pick will get when he is signed.

You would take a guy the OKC Thunder didnt even care to defend in the playoffs #1 overall.

BRUH.

I cant

It really does solve a lot of rotational issues. It allows Daniels and Hawkins the opportunity for additional minutes in the two deep. I'm not sold on Sarr, but I like having a young big to develop with a ton of upside.

Could we flip Hunter and #21 for a starting Center or would we bring back Val on a short deal?

You got anyone in this draft that you are 100% confident that can play better defense and offense than Herb and willing to pay them more guaranteed over the next 4 years for the opportunity to see? You have to consider where we are as a team and what we need currently.

Floor? Based on what? He is 4 inches taller and 2 pound lighter. What about his game reminds you of JA? He is almost an unknown as he does not have a lot of experience and his stats are not that impressive. I am sure it is about his potential and he could become something special. If we were rebuilding, I would most certainly take the chance. However, I am not sure we have that luxury. I think we have to stick with the proven asset over the lottery ticket solely based on our roster and situation.

The fact you mentioned offense and Herb Jones is laughable.

11 pts / 3 reb in 30 min of play.

Brother there's a lot of folks in the draft who could average 11/3. Including a guy on our bench named Jordan Hawkins

But can they do it while defending every other teams's #1 wing? Herb is averaging 11 points as a fourth, possibly 5th option most nights.
