Simple version is likely the Spurs tanking for this year.

A more complex version is if rumors are true that Murray is a shithead who is a locker room cancer.

Jrue quietly asked for a trade here. Whats the Spurs reasoning? This is one of those trades you always hear podcasters throw out there, but never actually happens. Where treadmill teams trade their best young asset and hit the restart button. 99% of the time teams try to build around Murray.

What I’ve heard is that he’s going to want a max contract on his next contract (and they don’t want to be one of these teams who basically has to pay what they view as a “non max” level player a max contract), and they don’t think it’s likely that he even re-signs with them, so they might as well get out in front of it and get assets back for him.

someone please explain to me how murray fits alongside trae? both need the ball in their hands. murray is not a good shooter and trae seems to be better a spot up than a catch and shoot guy. is murray going to handle with trae at the 2?

The Hawks’ plan, as leaked when rumors started on this a week or two ago, was to have a ball handler to run the offense to take some weight off Trey.

Trey is still their centerpiece but having Murray is supposed to help with defense and distribute the ball.

I think it's a good fit. Not perfect, but they will compliment each other

Ultimately they paid very little for a top talent. Fit is secondary to talent

The Hawks absolutely needed to try something different.

This is different.

Things are pretty quiet on the Pels front. Haven’t seen pretty much any rumors of them. Which makes sense considering they really can’t do anything but make trades using junk.

Both Devonte and Jax are at the facility with a lot of other teammates working out and practicing. That doesn’t mean anything just pointing it out.

i wouldnt call unprotected picks in 2025/26(swap)/27 "very little". the hawks paid about what the bucks paid for jrue, except the bucks have an MVP and the hawks dont

and i dont get what the fit concerns are...the now have hunter, murray, young, etc and they could still get in on ayton (for capela/etc)

I have serious questions about the fit offensively for the Hawks but you take that deal and figure the rest out later.

They can’t feasibly get Ayton.

They will be hard capped if they sign and trade for him and they only have 9 guys under contract.

Trae Young has the ball in his hands 95% of the time, what is Murray going to do on offense?

He can be happy now, I'm not convinced Trae will happily take the ball out of his hands and his production go down for this to work.

Theoretically Phoenix could win by Ayton not having a landing spot. But if the atmosphere was mutinous last season, we ain’t seen nothing yet.

Edit - Concerns are that they are now about $2m into the tax now and that they will be hard capped at the apron if they do this.

And that assumes they don’t find a way to flip Huerter or Bogdonovich for more pieces.

I would expect it to be quiet. Unless someone decides they want Graham, Hayes or Temple, I would think we are in a holding pattern. It is not like any of them would be in high demand. Maybe someone will need a player like Temple to fill out a 3-way deal and we will get lucky.

Sure they can. It all depends on the order of transactions.
