His style of play…an elite mid range game with ever increasing playmaking that leads to a lot of high quality 3 pointers?

If that’s not great in the nba, what is?

But not nearly as smart as he thinks he is.

Shamit has a hard on for trading BI. He honestly thinks trading him makes the Pels better somehow

I think the point is we haven’t been that good when he’s healthy. Like in December when we had that great month, we were winning all these games without him.

He’s a great player but we just haven’t won as many games as we should when he’s out there.

Think he just understsnd this is an opportunity where it’s better to be proactive than wait too long to trade him. When you have a guy like Scoot available (pels FO apparently love him)

And another disappointing season with Zion, you might be blowing it up anyway

Eric Pincus, who covers the Lakers but is also one of the top media salary cap experts, talks about the teams the new CBA impacts the most. The Pelicans make the list, although his conclusion is CJ is the one that should leave earlier than expected.

quote:

this season, the franchise should be able to stay under the luxury tax completely. The challenge is when Ingram's contract comes up after 2024-25. Or Jonas Valanciunas after this coming season, and others like Herbert Jones and Trey Murphy III.

The numbers add up quickly, and there's "a zero percent chance," per a Pelicans team source, that the franchise can keep this group together as is, perhaps as early as 2024-25, but certainly by 2025-26.

...With all that in mind, the Pelicans may need to start thinking about moving off McCollum sooner than they would have under previous rules.

I never thought he would ever finish out his contract here. You have to imagine that once Dyson is ready to start and play heavy minutes, CJ should be on the block. We're not drafting Daniels to sit on the bench forever.

Does it not seem odd that we gave McCollum an extension earlier than necessary with the new CBA looming?

It does. The unexpected thing to me about the new CBA is the built in cap smoothing. I didn't hear much chatter about that before or during. A big cap spike with the new TV deal would have made a big difference in the Pels' options.

Yeah, hard disagree there. MM is a tool but he's smart. Dua? I don't see it.

MM is quasi informed. Based on his general understanding of NBA basketball, he’s average.

I think CJ is a pretty easy choice considering at least half of his role was to mentor/connect/teach professionalism to Zion.

Doesn’t seem to have worked on or off the court tbh.

If playing through injury doesn’t inspire you, what will?

He played legit better than any of us could have imagined the best possible CJ the half season we got him.

We got 29 games of Zion, 45 games of BI and CJ injured shooting hand the bulk of the season last year.
