Fertitta ownership has definitely been...interesting.

Buy or sell? Leave it alone.
Now that we have a glimpse of what the Pelicans look like with Zion Williamson, there is absolutely no reason to move anybody involved on the roster. I’m not sure how much of an incentive there was before, but the conversation of possibly moving Jrue Holiday or a good veteran before the deadline was certainly there. Instead, the Pelicans know they have something special in Zion that is galvanizing the state of the team. They have an All-Star in Brandon Ingram, who is steadying a lot of the attack with Holiday. Derrick Favors and JJ Redick can help provide balance to the youth of the team. And we’re getting a lot of great play on both ends of the floor from guys like Lonzo Ball.
The Pelicans should let this team breathe the rest of the season. Unless someone blows you away with a Godfather offer for Holiday, David Griffin should be content with keeping everybody the rest of the season and seeing where they can go. Can this team beat out Memphis and Portland for the No. 8 seed? It doesn’t seem far-fetched, even after digging such a big hole to climb out of earlier this season. Zion makes the presumed direction of the preseason look all the more real. They just need to gel on the court.

Minnesota has been unwilling to include its 2020 1st-round pick in a deal for D’Angelo Russell.
Welp, Minnesota wants to lose Towns I guess

That has to be posturing. I've got to believe they would include their first in what is a super weak draft class if it means getting Russell.

i guess so
here's the other side

The Warriors gave up two first-rounders and Andre Iguodala to get D'Angelo Russell. They're not trading him for Andrew Wiggins and a single first-rounder. Minnesota's gonna have to come with RoCo and a first to get them interested, I'd think.

I wonder what it would take to get Winslow from Miami in a non-Jrue deal. He has not played much at all this season, but still has promise.

But at the time of the trade, those looked like the last picks in the first round.

quote:Those two picks are not very valuable. The 2020 pick to the Nets is protected 1-20 and since it will not be conveyed, it turns into a 2025 2nd rounder. The 1st to Memphis is in 2024 at best. So, they really not claim that they gave up much.

that could be (and probably will be) a valuable pick. for the 2024 season they'll have curry on a new mega deal (50MM?), klay making 43MM, draymond undoubtedly picking up his 27MM option.
if for whatever reason they dont rebound next year (or the next), they'll have to trade klay & draymond and start over. also the CBA expires in 2024...

remember...they HAVE to trade nene hilario, its not optional. if he's on the team past the deadline, they'll almost certainly be in the tax. moving him will cost an asset, but will wipe 2.5MM off the payroll assuming they dont take anything back
so it could be as simple as that. the question is, how do they improve the team under those circumstances?

The Celtics with Capela would make a serious run, if they only lose picks and filler salaries.

So the Rockets are going to head into the playoffs playing PJ Tucker as their center?
