asked Google why is Davin Ham considered a bad coach: Darvin Ham's tenure as head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers (2022–2024) drew significant criticism, leading to his firing despite leading the team to a Western Conference Finals appearance and an In-Season Tournament championship. Critics and fans largely attributed his reputation as a "bad" coach to a combination of questionable in-game decisions, rigid rotations, and poor team preparation. Here are the primary reasons Darvin Ham was criticized: 1. In-Game Management and RotationsRotations and Lineups: Ham was frequently criticized for using "three-guard" lineups that were ineffective, particularly in critical situations, and for inconsistent playing time for key players.Stubbornness with Personnel: He showed favoritism toward certain players (e.g., Taurean Prince, Cam Reddish) while burying others (e.g., Max Christie, Rui Hachimura) on the bench, often regardless of player performance.Mismanaging Momentum: He was often slow to call timeouts during opponent scoring runs (e.g., 10-0 runs), allowing games to get out of hand before reacting.Poor Challenge Decisions: Ham was viewed as incompetent in using the coach's challenge, frequently failing to challenge obviously wrong calls or using them at inappropriate times. 2. Lack of In-Game Adjustments"Hands in Pockets" Coaching: Fans and critics often noticed Ham standing on the sidelines with his hands in his pockets, appearing passive while the opposing team—particularly the Denver Nuggets—made crucial adjustments that he failed to counter. No Organized Offense: Critics argued that the team lacked a defined offensive structure, often relying on isolation plays rather than designed plays. 3. Team Performance and AccountabilityIneffective Post-IST Slump: Following the team's In-Season Tournament championship, the Lakers went on a severe losing slump (3-10 record), which raised questions about his ability to manage a team over a long season.Defensive Failures: Despite being considered a "defensive-minded" coach, the team often failed to execute defensive schemes, leading to easy points for opponents.Lack of Accountability: Critics pointed out that Ham rarely took responsibility for losses in post-game conferences, often blaming players or bringing up injuries, which ultimately led to him "losing the locker room". 4. Player DisrespectLoss of Confidence: Reports suggested that star players, including Anthony Davis, lost faith in his coaching ability.Public Disrespect: There were instances where players openly showed frustration or disregarded his instructions during games. While some considered him a potential scapegoat for deeper organizational issues (such as roster construction), the general consensus was that his strategic failings and inability to manage the team's dynamics made him an ineffective choice for a championship-contending team.
I agree. This sounds exactly like Willie .

No. I've done plenty of research over the past weeks. I don't agree with the majority of the people here, about Brown, and i want to understand why the feel the way they do. So I'm engaging in a discussion. I'm not accepting "he's bad" or "he's friend with Dumars", as legit criticisms or reasons to bypass a candidate. I want to know why he's bad or why being friend with Dumars is a disqualifier (news flash, Dumars is the former executive VP of the league and has met with the vast majority of people associated with the league. So good luck finding someone he's not familiar and friendly)..

Nice spin on it.

How about why are other teams not looking at Ham?
Is he on Orlando’s list?
Is he on Chicago’s list?

Teams follow trends and copy successful organizations. So right now everyone is targeting inexperienced candidates with high analytical philosophies. It's a boom/bust gamble. So a lot of older, more experienced assistants are being passed by (or they are comfortable being out of the head position). I know the Bucks interviewed Ham and he was a top 3 candidate for them. So there is one..

He was the assistant coach already for the Bucks. So DOH . They interviewed him . Just like Dumars had interest in Borrego
Also your research sucks. You did not know Julius Randle was traded for KAT in the Dyson thread.

I'm the biggest Randle fan and defender on the board. Of course I knew about the trade. How could you think I didn't know they were traded for one another? That's just dumb. It was a huge trade.
I said "Huh", because you termed it like the Knicks got better by trading them for one another. Then you covered your arse by posting article that said both teams made out ok, so I didn't see a point in carrying on the conversation.
What does any of that have to do with this conversation? Why would you remember and bring it back up?

The Knicks did get better. Are you not watching the playoffs or you just stupid?
You want to know what is wrong with Ham . Friendship over business. Retread. How did that go when Griff. hired his friend Stan Van Gundy?

Whoever "Justin" is has been wanting a decision for weeks. He constantly posts that we should make a decision already.

Justin fails to realize what we want isn’t what we get. All the dominoes have to fall first then we get the crumbs. I’m sure we’ve been told no multiple times already.

They hate Dumars; Ham and Dumars are friends; Therefore, Ham was hired only because he's friends with Dumars.
Yea, the trade was terrible. 3 or 4 more like that and he'll come close to Griffin's record of squandered first rounder picks.

Anyone else kind of miss Dell Demps?
Sure he wasn't the best in free agency but thought he was pretty good on the trade front

Didn’t Dumars get the job because he was friends with the owner? Even has a horse named after him?

Demps found a better roster in Minnesota.

However he did give Asik that extension. That was horrible
