These two were not connected. We were drafting Zion no matter what.
We let Randle walk, then traded for Favors. The Knicks gave Randle 21M a year. We traded for Favors, who made about 18M. People thought Zion and Randle couldn't play together which was never the case. We should have re-signed Randle. I was one of the only people saying this at the time. I also wasn't thrilled with the Lakers package and wanted to flip Ball/Ingram right away (due to medicals).

Let’s also check in on Julius Randle. Letting him walk to draft Zion . . . bit of a boo boo in retrospect.
Trading Randle seems to have paid off for the Knicks.

Are you living under a rock?
[The New York Knicks traded Julius Randle to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for Karl-Anthony Towns, along with Donte DiVincenzo and a first-round pick. This trade occurred before the 2024-25 season and has been beneficial for both teams, as they both reached the conference finals.

Hawks were nowhere near as good as many thought. Hawks were actually trying during regular season while so many teams were tanking...be very interesting to see how teams look next season...when NOBODY wants to tank to the point they could possibly finish in the bottom 3.
Hawks took two against the Knicks who swept Philly who beat the #2 seed. Maybe the Hawks weren’t as bad as you thought.
