I see his name is England Pelican, if he is truly from England and has based his opinions on the media’s truth, it’s hard to blame him. If you just blindly accept everything that is reported as true, you probably think black folks are hunted daily, and that America is a racist terrible place to live.

This is the greatest issue in the black community. I went to a school that was half and half along racial lines. The ‘thug’ life is glorified in these kids homes and on television. They want to grow up being the next ‘Lebron’ or just being a baller in general. Then they see the neighborhood drug dealer driving the flashy car and rims and want to emulate that.

Likewise, the ‘brainy’ black kids in school that made good grades and didn’t fit into that culture were ostracized. The disrespect towards teachers just graduates to police when these kids get older and then you have the situations that make these protests happen.

What are you talking about? You should watch some of the idiots out protesting being interviewed. They asked one why she was protesting. She stated she was tired of seeing black people hunted down in the streets. She was then asked how many unarmed black people she thinks were killed in the last year by police. Her answer, thousands. She was then told it was 9 and she had this stupid look on her face. And these are Americans.

I can only imagine that at least 90% out there protesting would answer the same way.

So? Just because gang violence exists and overdoses happen doesn't mean the war on drugs is good thing that should exist. Those will pretty much always exist in society and the war on drugs has been proven to be a total failure for decades now.

Has been illegal for decades.

I'm aware redlining has been illegal for decades, but just because it is illegal now doesn't mean the effects aren't still felt today.

Trump recently overturned the bill written by Biden, signed during the Clinton administration, and freed alot of nonviolent drug offenders.

I know what Trump did, but once again the effects of mass incarceration will be felt for generations, millions of lives have been ruined by it. Mass incarceration is not magically over because Trump retroactively released people. America still is way too harsh on a lot of crimes and still has the highest prison population in the world.

Happens in all poor communities, not just one race.

I know it does, but once again it disproportionately affects black communities.

blaming the past and "whitey"

I've not blamed "whitey" anywhere in my posts in this thread, you're just projecting. However, the past is important and the choices made in the past absolutely are to blame for the issues we have today. The past needs to be used to educate people today as to why our country is the way it is today. I'm just one person, my platform of educating people has only so much reach. Voter education is important, but examples like New Orleans and Chicago are much more nuanced than just voter education, and it is a bit lazy to suggest otherwise.

“Voter education” is not going to bring people up. Shifting a culture to focus on family and education is the answer, but I don’t see that talked about at all. There are enough opportunities created for POC, that if the culture would focus on the values of other “successful” cultures (education, nuclear family, etc...) the poverty issue in POC culture would sort itself out. But instead, you see groups like BLM attempting to destroy the nuclear family, and reject the way of life of other “cultures”.

It appears the NBA/Pelicans have lost a considerable amount of season ticket holders due to BLM position. 37% season ticket non-renewals who are permanent. A lot of suites also have not renewed due to BLM position. Thinks there will be some massive layoffs at the end of the year.

Asked my ticket rep about this: “That is total bullshite. Not true”

There are people here that are racist pieces of s*** and they know it. They need Trump to empower them so they can stay racist and feel justified. They're so scared to admit that they might be wrong their whole life. they would rather just keep a president that says hey it's okay to be an ignorant racist scumbag. keep blaming other people.. keep that anger in your heart... That's way easier right... It's pathetic and weak...and that's all it boils down to cut and dry..

The way I’m looking at the PLENTY of people trying to downplay this....

Does racism exist in the western, developed world... yes, it clearly does.

Should it? Absolutely not... ever, under any circumstances.

People are actively trying to make this better in whichever way they can...in this instance, basketball players and organisations are standing up to it and making their voice (whether you like their voice or not) heard.

Some of you don’t like it... seemingly because you don’t believe it’s an issue / doesn’t exist / doesn’t effect you....I suggest you’re part of the problem of it never getting resolved simply because you won’t push for it and instead, argue against a basic human right because it upsets your sports. WAAAAAAAA!

So is this another example of snowflake cancel culture running amok....or is that just when the libs do it?

OMG! They wrote BLM on the court!! Get that shite out of here or I’m not coming back!!

....fricking mental midgets lol.

If true, and I have some doubts, I would no longer blame players for bouncing from this city the moment they have the chance. Hell, force their way out AD style. Not winning games i get, but who the frick wants to play for a city that barely supports you as is and would then reportedly abandon supporting you en masse for peacefully asking to treat black people with equality and equally applied treatment under and by the law? It’s not like there aren’t plenty of cities that would gladly take our franchise.....And if that sort of protest became a thing, I have to imagine Silver would suddenly not be so opposed to say, the 51st media market moving up north to the 12th ranked media market in Seattle.

You do realize that the war on drugs drives most of the gang violence, right? Forcing drugs to the seedy underbelly makes those activities far more lucrative than competing against legitimate businesses. Also, using police to try to force drug use away under loss of freedom only exacerbates the problem by further strengthening the underlying hopelessness in lieu of actual help for addicts.
