Hey. You should read my comment replying to that comment. If you think thats a true representation of his skill level then you are mistaken

Is he better than the below average SF's we have on the roster?

We he won't be a liability if he has to switch from the 1-4 positions. And he can pass and handle the basketball. Take on contact and finish.

We finally have a guy who can manage defensively against some of the premier wings in the league.

He usually can't shoot though. He had a freakish series and it does not reflect how he plays. He's a good defender though. I'll give him that.

Sounds good considering jumpshot is one of the easiest things to improve upon.

Solomon Hill's past says that the most likely outcome is that he will be a below average player. I couldn't imagine an argument that says otherwise that is supported by facts.

Now, could he all of a sudden catapult onto becoming an average to above average player? Sure, anything is possible. But as a realist, I deal with only the most likely outcome. And him being a below average player is clearly the most likely outcome

I will say, you are the ultimate fence rider and love to play both outcomes

If he sucks: "I told you guys he sucked"

If he turns out to be good: "I told you guys it was possible he could be good"

So you wouldn't think that the way he played the year Paul George was out isn't a strong enough argument that he could realistically become an average player?

I can realistically see this going two ways:

1) He will not do well at all
2) He develops into an average player

Neither of these are unrealistic expectations. I'm not going out on a limb at all with those predictions. The fact that you think the second scenario is very far fetched confuses me considering how well he played when thrown into the fire that year.

Incorrect- if he sucks, then he sucks. If he is good, I will say I was wrong.

Deal?

Ok I'm on vacation guys out of the country but I thought I'd weigh in.

I'm ok with this. Hill was a guy I was very interested in. When he got minutes this year he played well. And he's exactly the 3/4 swing we've been needing and looking for for years.

Is this an overpay based on future projection? Yeah. Big time. It could be an extremely. Big gamble. But this is a gamble I'm kind of ok with. I'm cautiously optimistic.

Also I've drank a lot of rum.

You think the way he played his rookie year was good? Or let me guess, you don't but it showed "potential"

Look, you guys pop your champagne. Get excited. I just can't do it. Sorry.

I saw the same kind of justification of the Asik deal after a few days last year. Now, literally everyone says they hated it at the time.

I better not see more than 3 people say they hated the Hill deal next summer when he doesn't come close to living up to it.

I'm not declaring that he will be good or bad. I think he is the type you take a chance on, and I'll judge this contract when I feel I have seen enough of the guy on this team.

But instead of taking the low hanging fruit and attacking me, somebody build a concrete argument with facts, data, whatever, that shows there is a solid chance Hill lives up to being worth 12 % or so of the cap.

I will be open minded to it and support it if it is well done. Anybody wanna take a shot?

Never said I was excited. But I'm not all doom and gloom about it either. It could work out just as easily as it could flop. We'd be taking on that risk no matter who we signed.

Only difference here is this risk has a lower cost. Granted, there's also a much lower floor as well.

I'm in Puerto Vallarta sitting my arse in a tropical paradise. Was sitting at a swim up bar all day and finally came back to the room and my wife is passed out cold now.

Finally had a chance to get on wifi and check this out. Having a hard time catching up on all the deals, but this one really doesn't seem bad. The guy has great size, can swing 3/4, and has potential. We have no choice but to gamble. I'm ok with it.
