Assumimg Ivey isn't there, Sochan should be the pick. Dude can defend 1-4 and is oozing potential. Would be a great backup to Ingram.

CJ/Jose/Kira
Herb/Tae/
Ingram/Sochan/Naji
Zion/Trey/Hayes
JV/Lance/Billy

59% free throw shooter scares me.

I would take it a step further, he could guard a lot of 5’s too. A guy that can legitimately defend every position. He will be selected an All-Defense team before he’s off his rookie deal.

He’s not as sexy as some of the guys this board wants, but I would argue he could be more impactful than anyone.

Was Austin Rivers that bad from the stripe or was he worse?

59% FT is Shaq / Ben Wallace range.

“Has to” is a bit of a stretch. I wouldn’t be upset because we know he can defend but there’s a handful of guys you can convince me with.

Rivers shot 64% in college and 54.6 in his rookie year.

Him and Herb on the court would be insane.

I love Herb, but I think Sochan will be a better defender.

Which really says something.

Is Fred Vinson still employed by the Pelicans?

It’s definitely something to consider.

But guys get better. When Herb was his age he shot 27% from three and 50% from the line.

I would also say if you look at guys historically who can’t shoot, but are super skilled in multiple other areas, those guys turn out just fine.

if the #8 pick gets early and often minutes something has gone wrong. Draft defense

look at the Celtics. Down their two best defenders and up double digits on the better team, on the road

Oh I don’t disagree. But the Pelicans are built to be a playoff team next year. Do we have time for Sochan to develop? Does his timeline fit ours?

Dyson Daniels’ highlights look identical to Herb Jones on defense and on offense, he looks just like Lonzo Ball passing-wise but can also drive and finish at the goal. But just like young Lonzo, he is terrible from outside.

Right. In no world would it make sense to draft this dude. He’s a terrible player offensively who’s only attribute is on ball defense. He’s the opposite of what the team needs.

Draft defense

I'm not saying you can't build a half court offense around CJ/BI/Zion/JV, but this team's best offense is fueled by its pesky defense. I'd be happy throwing another lock down defender into the mix. The good thing for the Pels is they can go either way. Drafting a shooter like Mathurin helps them in other ways.
