Had a feeling we were starting our best 5. Hope he stays healthy.

Dumb to say he will be starting at C when he will never log a second guarding another C.

People have constantly been saying that Zion is the 5, and yet, Herb is the only one who has proven that he can effectively guard opposing bigs.

The other reasonable alternative is to put BI on the opposing center, which I think that we will do at times, but we're currently trying not to piss BI off and have him create a stink, so we aren't going to say that right now.

The main reason to put BI on the opposing center is that he has the length and strength to be effective in that role, and he's such a mediocre perimeter defender (in contrast to Herb).

But he will! What do you mean?

Our small-ball lineups last season usually featured Herb or BI on the opposing center -- not Zion.

Herb and Trey are much better suited at guarding wings and bigger guards on the perimeter.

It's about getting our best five guys on the court at the same time.

And then, when opponents want to run some kind of screening action, we switch Herb onto the guard. It should be a great defense.

Going to be impossible to defend on offense in a 5 out system. So we'll try to run bigs off the floor.

If at any point Herb is on the floor and not guarding the opposing team's best perimeter player, everyone associated with the Pels from the coaching staff all the way up to Griff need to be fired on the spot.

Herb is probably going to more than likely be a rover on the court and BI and Z will need to cover down low.

This.

It would be asinine to take maybe the best wing defender in the league and make him have to guard post players. Not to mention the instant foul trouble he would be in.

Again, relax. This organization do not want to win. We should all be able to see that. Good players go there and they all regress. Always have been like that, always will be like that.

Vs Zion (our best player) banging down low and taking those fouls instead?

I do think we aren't as much of a liability this year when it comes to switching/pick and roll situations if we run the small ball lineup without JV out there.

Now the give and take here is that we are gonna be frustrated as hell when it comes to rebounding. Willie is clearly going all in with the small ball team. If we do start the season with Theis not starting and its a total failure after a week or 2, I do imagine Willie would begin starting Theis. We shall see.

I would much rather Zion being in the way down low and working the glass instead of putting him in spots that highlight his terrible perimeter defense.

You can't say he's starting at PG/SG/SF because none of Murray/ CJ/ BI are getting benched and the questions would start flowing.

This is the safest way to say that we are starting the best 5. And I can definitely see Herb guarding Centers with that starting 5 along with Zion. One guy plays defense like Draymond and the other guy has a similar build to Draymond so combined we will survive. Trust the maths

When is the last time a lineup has differentiated between SG and PG?

These days, you see lineups listed with three guards and two forward, vice versa or sometimes two of each and a center.

Yeah he did look dominant on offense in one half of a preseason game.

I also think it's obvious he's not in shape, and is still overweight. The Zion I saw on Monday was a lot closer to resembling the fat arse that started game 1 last year, as opposed to the beast that was playing in game 83.

And this stuff from Shams is just that, a sham. Just say you don't expect Theis to start and the Pels will implement a small ball starting lineup. No one shoudl expect the best perimeter defender in the league to stop guarding perimeter players so he can guard 5's, so don't say something stupid like this Shamwow.
