People want to go back to something like that Jazz

Honestly I feel the same way. There is so much culture in New Orleans I think picking something that has something to do with the city is pretty cool, even though Pelicans is more Louisiana wide, but that could be a good thing. I think there are better options, but like I said earlier, the team name does not make or break the rebrand. IMO, color scheme and logos are more important, and can even make a bad team name good.

totally agree with this. but i still don't get why you have to go out of the way to have something to do with the region.

To try to build more excitement around the team. Obviously that's the point of rebranding, but incorporating local flare can help do that even more

just because you hate it here and left doesn't mean the rest of us can't take pride in our region

The best mascots/nicknames for teams are almost always based on something local.

Is that really hard to grasp? Jazz is a stupid arse name for a team in Utah. Grizzlies also sucks for Memphis.

Do you want some generic name like Warriors, Kings, Wizards or Cavaliers? Maybe you do if you like something lame like Knights.

Great names are locally inspired: Spurs, Celtics, Sixers, Rockets (even though I don't like that name), Suns, etc. And that's just the NBA.

It's the same in other leagues too. Saints, Steelers, Cowboys, 49ers, Buccaneers, Patriots, Vikings, Packers, etc.

So much better than generic crap like Panthers, Titans, Falcons, Eagles, etc.

I'm not saying its 100% true, but somebody within the organization told me that. Personally, I don't think those colors would be good for us, so I hope he's wrong.

Heat, Thunder, Lakers, Nets, Kings, Clippers, Raptors, Grizzlies (only because of where they're located), Jazz (see Griz), Magic, Bobcats, Cavaliers all suck infinitely more than Pelicans.

Totally disagree on at least half of those. A Bobcat (and even Bob Johnson) could kick a pelican's arse. Kings, Clippers, Raptors, Grizzlies, Cavaliers are all better names. Lakers sticks with the franchise name that was built in the land of lakes. Thunder is better, sorry. Heat is arguable. Pelicans works for a coed youth soccer team, though.

No doubt.

But Pelicans is okay. It does lend a Louisiana flavor, and that's not a bad thing. I suspect Benson likes the idea of creating that type of identity.

Plus, Pelicans are pretty badass birds. Interesting creatures.
