I take it you've never been to SLC. It's not so jazzy, but it is far from a shithole. Nice city, actually.

Love that logo, you should submit it to the Hornets. Did you steal that idea

I have to say one thing about Pelicans...seeing them diving/gliding over the lake Pontchartrain while driving on the causeway is one of the most awesome sights.

It's weird...just seeing that logo with the pelican make me immediately feel more of a connection to the team because it's inherently Louisiana. I really think a rebrand with that in mind, be it Pelican or Krewe, will really help to get fans to take an ownership in the team like they obviously do for LSU and the Saints.

I don't agree with that at all and that has always been my problem with the rebrand. Not many people are going to become fans of a team because the name is more regional and that number will be offset by the number of Hornets fan we lose because they are Hornets fans and that name will be picked up quickly by Charlotte. Most of the teams in the NBA have nothing to do with their region and that doesn't hurt them. If you aren't a fan of a team in your area because their name is of something not in your area, then you have issues. Do you see any Lakers fan wishing for a name change because there aren't any lakes in Los Angeles? The Hornets have been in New Orleans for almost as long as they were in Charlotte and and the reason some people aren't attached to the team has nothing to do with the name.

I understand why people love some names and hate others, but in the end the name is irrelevant. The Hornets have enough exposure and marketing muscle to make practically any name work, even super lame ones like Spirit or Sinners. It's like the song you hate but can't get out of your head because radio runs it into the ground.

damn I would take Krewe over that. Though to those who say "no one will buy it".

I say Duck's was a crappy name as well, and Duck's merch sold well in the 90's when it was fresh.

Case in point, this popular CD from the period.

so a name isn't what stops people from getting into the team.

I think that is the general view, but nobody outside of the NBA and Hornets front office knows.

This situation isn't like the Lakers. We have constantly lived in fear that the team will leave. We have had an owner that was not "one of us." We are finally beginning to feel like this is our team now that Benson has purchased it. A rebrand will only help that. It will make the team feel brand new and created in Nola, instead of just relocated here. It will have meaning that the people of the area can relate to.

Again, every situation is different but people in Louisiana feel very emotional and prideful about being from here. In this case, the name matters.
