Yeah thats why I said he tries to copy them. Not sure if he can reach that level but if he can improve his handle he can become deadly. I mean he threw better lobs to Lively tonight then some of the lobs that are thrown to Zion.

Tonight showed me hes good enough to PnR with Zion. We just dont try.

My two biggest frustrations this year

Zion not in shape to start the year
Hawkins on the bench

Todays NBA is geared towards offense, specifically 3 point shooting, at the expense of defense. Willie has an assassin wasting away on the bench. Dyson injury might just save Willie from himself.

Makes you wonder how much Hawk and Ryan even would play with Borrego at the helm

Here's a gentle reminder that, of all our regular rotation players, Hawk has the worst +/-. The reason that Willie doesn't play him is that we lose his minutes. This is because Hawk's defense is still very much a work in progress.

I'm a fan of Hawk's game and think he's going to end up being great, but the idea that Willie is messing up by keeping him on the bench is not justified by the evidence. When Willie tried to bench Jose for Hawk, we were worse, and that's why Willie gave the rotation spot back to Jose.

I love Hawk, but it could be that he needs to develop a more complete game.

I've still yet to see an explanation then why we inserted him into the rotation in January then pulled him from the rotation afyrt a January where he played extremely well and won his minutes.

Shamit has rebutted this argument many many times, citing how combinations with lesser talent around him during games has also impacted his + / - .

It’s absolutely crazy to me that everyone outside of New Orleans can see just how good Jordan Hawkins is but people and fans of this team seem to think Jose and Naji are better short and long term which I find absolutely HILARIOUS.

At some point I think the Pelicans are dumb enough to trade him to keep one of the aforementioned players above in town and I hope and pray if/when that happens this dude becomes an All Star. Because out of everyone not named CJ/BI/Zion , he’s the one with the most potential. That includes Trey Murphy.

We got fully healthy, he came in for 2-3 games and missed a couple of 3s and rotations, Willie didn't give him any consistent run, and now he looks broken.

The fact that Hawk hasn't built up enough rep to earn the benefit of the doubt is mind boggling. He's a good rebounding guard and plays smart offensive basketball. His shot selection is so fricking advanced. We have like 2 dudes who can shoot 3s off the dribble well, and he's one of them.

Just crazy shite from Willie.

There may be some good reasons (as others have pointed out) for why Hawkins has such a poor +/-, but I can understand why Green is reluctant to play him, especially over Jose who wins his minutes. However, isn’t it also fair to ask why we stick with a starting unit that ranks so poorly using the same metric?

He needs playing time to develop, but we have a coach who’s more concerned about preserving his job than he is about developing young talent that can make the team much better in the future.

It’s not even just off the dribble. His movement without the ball is the best on the team. He’s close to an ideal pairing with Zion because of the gravity that he should be able to create with his movement and shooting. Willie is an idiot. At a minimum one of Hawk or CJ should be on the court at all times.

He didn’t look broken last night I tell you. He ran the PnR pretty freaking easily with a guy who can leap like Zion. Not to mention this was during the championship game where defense was played.

He also ran a fast break, played unselfish (looking at you Mathurin) and had 5 or more rebounds. In reality he should have been the MVP as a few of you like using +/- so much, he was a plus 12 on the floor and team Jalen was a minus seven without him.

Who returned from injury at the end of January that took his minutes?

Pretty sure it's no one.

While I agree with you that he needs work, Willie don’t give a shite about +/-. Jose always wins his minutes and leads the team in that category but somehow Willie managed to pull him out of the rotation for no fricking reason.

I hear you but again, Willie wasn't reluctant to play him in January. He played every game and averaged 18 minutes per game.

What happened for Willie to decide to play him in January, then secondarily, after a very successful January, what happened that made Willie pull him from the rotation entirely...

There's really no realistic alternative at this point.

Bench Jonas for Trey.

Willie doesn't have the balls to try that though.

Agreed, it honestly makes sense for rotations especially since our starting one is awful.

It wasn't just one person. Multiple guys had one to two day injuries iirc. It forced hawk to play. And a lot of those minutes at the end of the Jan month were blowout games too.
