If Demps had both titles like Ainge would that make our organization better?

you're missing the forest for the trees.

who hired Demps? what was the process like? what were the things they were looking for in a GM?

obviously a different ownership group, but apply that to the coaching search. apply that to the personnel (basketball and off court) moves they have made. that is the problem.

it's all fruit from an incompetent tree

And again - your argument is essentially, "It could be worse"

I don't know you, so I am not calling you a loser, but that's a loser mentality. I have seen it multiple times in business and people with that mentality always fail, or at best, just get by.

The goal should not be to set up a structure that is not bad. Or even one that is good. It should be to set up the best structure possible to give you the best chance to win. There is no salary cap on front office personnel. It is where the great organizations gain an advantage.

But obviously, you are cool settling for "could be worse"

But as a business that wants people in the seats, winning games is and should be important. People show up when the team is at least decent. Get actual basketball minds in there and create a culture. Loomis shouldn’t have his hands in this at all. Demps needs to be out. Start this right. The best thing they could do for business is get more people investing in the brand and team, and that happens if they are worth watching.

No a losers mentality is making excuses for the people in power within the Pelicans organization. A loser mentality is I always need more help. Get the frick outta here with this "it could be worse" shite. You have a job, get it done.

Who are you arguing against?

My position has always been: Hire a new POBO, who hires a new GM, who hires a new coach

Is your argument to skip that first step because Loomis is so great that's its unnecessary?

If so, cool. But if you think I am in any way fighting for Demps, then you can't read very well.

You contradict yourself all the time on here and twitter. Who knows what ypu are arguing at any moment.

My argument is that the position isnt needed to have a successful franchise when there are current successful NBA teams who have one person doing both jobs. Demps is doing both jobs without the title. Hes doing a shitty job but hes doing both. Yes, I would rather have good basketball minds in both positions but it isnt key to have 2 different people doing it. Now, regarding the next hire its possible that the PBO title is needed to find the best candidate for the job. But that wasnt what I was responding to in the initial post of yours.

So... after all this we agree?

The lone disagreement is that although you would prefer another basketball mind as a POBO, it is not a must for you.

It is a must for me.

That is our lone disagreement, yet you want to come at me with vigor. You see how you can learn from this if you just take your time and parse the argument?

Does this trade make sense for teams involved?

GS can try to keep AD and Durant longterm with steph and jrue. (not sure how that would even be possible.)

Flip Niko and Randle for further assets and we going places. Klay Thompson falls in loves with Gayle Benson, inherits the empire and resigns long term.

Just thought I'd drop this in here instead of starting a new thread.

Buddy Heild season stats:

20.9 4.9 and 2.3 in 31 minutes through 50 games played.

.476 FG% (16 attempts per)
.457 3PT% (7.4 attempts per)
.865 FT%

Hindsight is 20/20 but the organization would be in a far better place had we not shipped him off for parts of 2 seasons with Boogie.

Boogie left and we got nothing, now AD wants out.

That move in hindsight is turning out to look not so good.

I'll be the first to admit that from a fan's perspective, it did look appealing at the time.

My guess is that Dell will stay because they owe him money and they don't really care about the franchise enough to make the changes needed.

quote:

The person that I occasionally speak with that knows ownership swears that Dell will not make it through the break. The franchise wants a star to market in the wake of AD and he thinks if they get Zion that will obviously be it, same with Tatum though Zion is the preference, but they could sign or take on a stopgap “star” to sell with Jrue while younger players and picks develop into more marketable players depending on the AD trade specifics. It is all fluid, but he did mention trying to bring back Rondo with the young players.

Just had to bump this since we are bragging about calling moves today.
