I've always viewed SVG as a shock to the system. When they bring in the next coach who asks more than Gentry but not as much as SVG, the players will think it's great. Going from the cool uncle that lets you do anything to any kind of authority figure was always going to get some level of push back.

Add losing to having to deal with a tougher authority figure and course these kids are gonna be upset. shamit said something like this on twitter and I 100% agree: "suns and knicks are doing great this season & not one negative story about Sarver or Nolan." winning smoothes so much out.

on another note, last 10 years we have had 2 players coaches, Monty & Al, and had a winning percentage under .500. I'm not saying a tough, a-hole-of-a-coach is the answer, but I am happy we aren't repeating history. griff & co. have to challenge the status quo

Monty, Uncle Al and SVG have collectively taken 3 separate HOF talent, generational players and found a way to have an under .500 combined record...that is an accomplishment in itself.

In many ways we saw this coming in other ways it’s also a product of a disappointing season. Would love to know more details.

Wrong. It's the product of hiring a middle-aged retread coach who never won anything in his career and who kept the young players pretty much on the bench until it was too late.

This was a stupid hire from the get go. If you want Zion to stick around after his rookie deal Griffin better cut bait on Van Gundy right now.

I don't think it's fair to compare Monty Williams to Gentry and Van Gundy. Williams was a good coach to me who was fired unfairly by idiot Demps after coming off a playoff season. Also, as good as CP3 is or was back then, he is no Anthony Davis or Zion Williamson. Williams, got after his teams to play defense when he coached and they responded, he's doing a fine job now in Phoenix.

garbage take. CP3 was a top player during that time and a leader

Cp3 came 2nd to mvp, really should have won it.

He was and still is better than Antoinette

Was a fricking MVP candidate that took us to a 2 seed and drug a team with no David west to the playoffs in another year and took 2 games off the Lakers.

Kushner put it properly in his column: someone had to be the bad guy who instituted some discipline and accountability in the program.

Stan's approach obviously worked for some players: I think that SVG's "tough love" totally transformed Jaxson's approach to the game. If Jaxson turns into an all-star in a couple of years, you can bet that he will credit SVG's benching him for the turnaround in his career.

Kushner is correct that our future success is predicated upon Zion and BI picking up the mantle of leadership and being willing to hold their teammates accountable. SVG is never going to work out as a coach if he ultimately has to do all of that and BI and Zion don't step up.

I never said he wasn't a top player and leader, I guess I didn't make myself clear enough. I was comparing CP3 to Anthony Davis and Zion Williamson who are 2 big, freakishly gifted players athletically. That's what I was talking about, CP3 being all of 6 feet if that (he's slowing down now and injuries are happening more regularly) was dynamite in a small package.

Gimme Pels CP3 any day over Pels AD.

CP3 is a generational point guard. If anything, Davis and Zion don't belong in his category yet.

Those teams were the bizzaro world version of the current Pels

If the game was close with a few seconds left, I always felt like someone -- usually Paul -- would make a big play.. Not just shots, but breaking up inbounds passes, etc.

I'm probably remembering wrong but it felt like we won a ton of close games during the Paul years

If Shinn wasn't such a cheap bastard, that Hornets team would have been a contender.

You're not, Chris Paul has always been great at making the right play in crunch time. That is the exact element that the current Pels are missing. But that's also a rare ingredient to be able to add.

Hell I'd rather OKC/Phx CP3 over Antoinette.

SVG makes me miss Alvin. At least Alvin was likable.
