I know there have been other number one picks who have failed far more miserably, but a lot of them were dice rolls when they were drafted. Zion was supposed to be a generational player. Comparably Greg Oden comes to mind, but injuries or his downfall, not laziness and unwillingness to develop his game...

All this to be said that unless something changes drastically soon, I believe he is

He isn't a bust. Didn't live up to expectations and is underwhelming in the first 7 years due to injuries and laziness. But a 23.8ppg on 59.5% on natural abilities alone is a lot more than 90% of the guys who come in the league year in and year out.

Zion is a 2 time all star. He failed to meet expectations. Good player but for a guy who was being generational it’s not up to expectations.

You cant call a guy thats averaged 20+ points a game a complete bust but we all thought he was going to be generational and a top 5 player in the NBA. He hasn't been close to our very lofty expectations but he can still help his legacy by playing hard in great shape and developing a 3 point shot or a mid range so he has something besides go to his left to the basket. I think this team as constructed no doubt is a top 10 team in the west on talent but it still hasn’t been brought together. He also needs to be getting 10 rebounds a game. Theres no reason he shouldn’t be a nightly double double. Still have no backup center. If Joe really is going into this year with DJ or Karlo as the backup C he should be terminated. We should have given Marvin Bagley $5 or $6 million to come play for the Pels over the Nuggets for the vet minimum. I’m guessing Joe is planning to get by with Queen at center some.

Zion is nowhere near one of the worst first round picks...but his hype was unreal.

It sucks because he was playing great leading up to that playin game a couple years ago and then got hurt after tying the game up late

He has shown flashes of being an outstanding player (not a Wemby ofc, but definitely worthy of a first overall...) but man. Bad luck and laziness.

Zion has played in 276 out of a possible 554 games...plus missed all 10 playoff games

Street Clothes played in 466 out of 574 games and played in all 9 playoff games

I think Derrick Coleman is a pretty good career comp so far. All NBA talent but fringe all star most years and lots of injuries and conditioning issues

But Zion has better stats than Coleman.

Relative to expectations (people said he was the new Lebron before his draft), you can say he's a bust cause no PO games, no Finals appearances.. He isn’t an all-around player like Lebron.
He is way more injury prone than Lebron.

But Zion has still crazy numbers

Not even close.

He hasn't lived up to potential but he's a borderline All-Star type player.

There are guys who had high expectations, lower than Zion for sure but still high, who produced basically nothing in the NBA.

Greg Oden was drafted ahead of Kevin Durant

What's funny is that the No. 2 pick hasn't worked out either. Morant and Zion were both can't miss guys.

Really, that entire draft is underwhelming. No superstars.

Hunter is meh. Barret is meh. Garland same. All decent players but no true consistent All Stars.

NAW actually would go top 10 in a redraft.

He’s not a bust, if healthy. But I’m tired of us trying to build a franchise around him as the centerpiece.

He is when you compare him to all of the #1 overall picks since him.

Other than Risacher, Zion is worse than all of them.

Zion is one of the worst picks of all time considering the fact that he's just barely good enough to keep the hope alive, get paid like he's a franchise player, try to build a roster around a 1 dimensional short power guard, and waste 8 years doing so.

This is so much more damaging than Oden crashing out of the league in 3 years due to injuries or A Bennett just plain sucking. Both of those guys didn't waste much time and anchor their franchises into the abyss for an extended period of time.

Think about where we were 7-8 years ago. We actually had an excited fanbase. We had hope. We had potential. Zion being at the forefront of our franchise has turned us into a complete joke and laughingstock.

I think Ben Simmons is a very good comp to Zion. Both were highly praised freshman and with worlds of potential coming out of the draft. They both had relatively early success with all star teams. However, injuries and failures to expand their games cost them from truly becoming top players in the league. I don’t see Zion lasting much longer in the league if he doesn’t start shooting jumpers on a consistent basis.

Zion is even worse than Ben Simmons.
Ben was still an elite defender, with 3x all-defensive team and an elite passer also.

Zion and Ben don’t shoot anyway...But Simmons was very good on defence.

Everyone thought Zion was about to be the next big thing in the league. Not just pels fans. Yeah I’d say he ranks pretty high up there as all time busts.

Agreed, Ben Simmons peak as an overall basketball player was higher than Zion. He was a winning player. A playoff player. His brain broke eventually and he's been a joke since then. But people forget how good and impactful on winning he was for 3-4 years. Again, Philly didn't have to waste 8 years on him either. And look at them now.
