His seeming lack of athleticism at Duke doesn’t worry you? He looked extremely sluggish at times.

I think his floor is more likely and he may not be able to play minutes in the playoffs b/c of how bad his D is

The problem is that what he is likely to become is only worth the rookie contract. This is basically just a way to offset Zion/BI/CJ/Herb's salaries for 1-2 years to stay under the tax. Then we get rid of him.

To be honest I don’t think anyone has a clue where anyone is going past the first three so I’m not sure about that.

What more is to get expected from the 8th pick, in reality, though?

I think you draft for a skill that can be useful. In Griffin you add a guy with development potential on his side as well. High floor IQ, great teammate. This guy this a winner

IMO, if you have an opportunity to draft role player A who is great defensively and needs to develop his shot, or role player B who has a great shot, and needs to develop defensively, I would choose role player A most often.

This is mostly why I value players like Daniels and Sochan over Griffin and Mathurin.

Those guys can easily turn into Justice Winslow or Stanley Johnson types as well. There’s a risk with every prospect. Whoever we pick need to fit on and off the court with a clear development plan.

The kid from Baylor-I’ve been saying since April.

Throw him out there with Herb and you’ve got a lineup that competes with the deep wing teams defensively. A 3 wing lineup plus Ingram -you can really bother some teams with that length.

I’m 1000% with you on Branham. He’s going to be a very solid player and he is a great kid. If we randomly picked him at 8, I’d probably be A OK with it even though for pure maximizing value purposes, you’d hope we’d trade down and do it.

Branham would be exactly what we were probably hoping Graham could be. Another microwave scorer that can reasonably create his own offense.

Branham being projecting late lottery or just outside lottery is another example of NBA teams outthinking themselves to take swings at players with maybe 20% higher upsides, but also 80% lower floors.

I think Sochan has a strong chance of getting drafted by us at 12 after we trade the 8th pick to OKC.

The problem with Branham is that his scoring is too one dimensional. It's all pull-ups, either from midrange or from deep. He seems to shy away from contact and won't just take it to the rim. After seeing Lonzo do that for years, I don't want another guard who can't drive and finish.

Especially not at 8.

My favorites would be

8: Dyson Daniels, followed closely by Mathurin.

10-12: Sochan or Davis

13-17: Jovic

But really as long as it's not Dieng or Griffin, I'll be happy. Those are the only two prospects I actively dislike.

Obviously Murray falling would be my number one, but I know that’s very improbable bordering on unrealistic.

So assuming he’s gone, Mathurin then Sochan then Davis

At 8: Dyson or Mathurin (50/50)

Small trade back: Sochan, Griffin, Johnny Davis

Big trade back: Agbaji, Dieng, Jovic

I know this board hates him, and I don’t quite get it(not in love but he’s got a solid floor and ceiling), but I do think people aren’t giving enough mid share to how high he probably is on our board.

We know we met with him early, we have reporting we like him, he comes from Duke, the program far and away more than any other program that we seem to trust to have in their background, and he fills an immediate need as well because of his shooting.

Not saying I’d be 100% sold…but I can see it

I’m not totally off of him, just not at the top of my list. If the team okays his medicals I’ll feel better about it (which they obviously would have if they draft him).

Medicals are a huge one.

Already feels like we are the most cursed injury team in the league the last 10-15 years, and bringing in a guy that can’t stay on the court would be frustrating.

But this staff has proved themselves to me, so if they clear him, I’ll trust, for now
