Time to start over. AD is overrated as much as anybody. He isn’t capable of putting a team on his back

Plus 1.

At least it's not another Gentry post. I'll allow it.

The guy simply isn’t elite. Sure he puts up decent numbers very quietly but he doesn’t remotely possess the it factor.

no big man in this era, regardless of talent, is going to "possess the it factor" because they simply cannot impact the game that way without a quality ball handler.

I don't want to trade away Davis. He is just stupidly talented. But it's been so long and he just hasn't figured out how this league works or what it takes to be a winner. When he was drafted, I honestly thought we had the next Olajuwon. A pure Center that could rule the league for the next 10-15 years. But people want him to play PF, shoots 3's, play away from the post, run the floor, afraid he'll get hurt (it's ironic he gets hurt anyway). He wants to be a guard. He even talks about it in his commercial. I just don't get it. Meanwhile, GS and the Cavs are winning championships playing without Centers at all.

It's easy to say Center is a dying position. But 3 out of the top 5 projected NBA picks next summer are Centers. So there is still value there..

Not so much people, but Davis himself. Demps clearly envisioned him as a center long-term, as did most of the league. Especially with the shift toward smaller, athletic lineups.

That was one of the rationales for bringing in Ryno. He was sold on being the super sub and eventually the starter next to AD. But AD has continually insisted he prefers playing power forward.

Also ironic that his healthiest season came when he played center the most.

Did he? Is that why he spent so much on Asik? Did he envision Asik as the PF of the future?

Most forward-thinking NBA people see Davis as the new proto5, but Demps is not one of them.

He just isn't elite here. He'll win rings in LA or New York.

Pels need a new GM who can orchestrate a rebuild. Trade AD for picks and tank. It's clearly obvious he's been wasted here.

by far the biggest whiff of the Davis era.

it's year 6 and the best distributor he's played with is....either 2017/18 Rondo or Ish Smith. the pg they traded 2 lotto picks for and signed to max level $$ has been moved off ball

read that section again and marvel at the works of this franchise

LA or ANY, nah. But you send him to a franchise with a good culture -- Boston, SA, etc and he will be an elite player who actually tried hard every night.

Loomis wont give a green light to tank. Because of Benson $$$..
Change HC and FO maybe.
Even (hopefully) trade Boogie.

But forget about rebuilding in tank mode.
There was chance for it 4 years ago. But it passed...

If Demps even gets to sniff the special red phone for calls about AD, this franchise is even more inept than Crewz portrays it.

This isn’t a novel idea either.

Who did Demps sign first? Ryno or Asik? What prompted the signing of Asik?

Oh yeah, the hole created at Center and Davis’s comments about wanting to be a power forward.

I hate Demps with a passion and believe he is the driving reason why after all these years we have merely gone from a bubble playoff team with CP3 to a bubble playoff team with Davis, but even he did have some foresight there....though I would of argued(and did) that the real problem was the underlying win now strategy and its execution.

that doesnt mean much.

i can tell you that at the time of the Anderson signing, there were questions about fit. "they're both pfs"

the organizational response from someone who had the ability to know at that time was that fit isn't as important as talent. they can figure the fit out later.

maybe very long term, when he signed Anderson Demps thought Davis would be a 5. but it was not a part of the Anderson move. remember they traded for Lopez that summer too.

i think you could argue that trading Lopez next summer was an indication that they thought Davis would be a 5. but even that move was weird since they insisted all throughout Davis's rookie year that he was a 4 and they didnt want him in the middle. even when Anderson and Davis did play together over their years together, who was almost always guarding the other team's 5? it wasn't Davis

You can wrangle over it however you like, but Demps envisioned Davis and Ryno on the court simultaneously long-term. Which infers Davis playing notable minutes at center.

But while I still have no problem with the Ryno signing, it is another reason why Demps rushed rebuild was bound to backfire, because you are building a team around assumptions about how that star will develop. When the wiser path would of been to simply ride the wave and not try and force things. Maybe use that period to collect a few more high lottery selections before diving into the assets for veterans and expensive free agent game.

dude. i am straight up telling you what Tim Connelly told someone i know after they signed Anderson.

you should try wrangling with Anderson routinely drawing assignments on the 5s when he and Davis were playing together
