Someone spotted Ja Morant at the LSU campus a hour ago. According to retropels Twitter.

We are 1 full game ahead of the Wolves. Before the final game against them, they play @Spurs, we play NYK. Unlikely we will clinch a top 8 seed before the last game. So Pels at Wolves will likely be for the 8th seed unless one of the LA teams decide to do us some favors.
Really need LAC to lose tonight so we can control our destiny for the 7 seed and home throughout play-in. LAC plays Port and likely a resting Phx.

Pelicans win tonight means NOLA is AT WORST the 9-seed

Clippers beat the Lakers by 7... makes the Pelicans path to the top-6 very bumpy

to update after April 5 games... and due to how things now look for the Pelicans... I will now make this an all around post of who the Pelicans can still catch and who can still catch the Pelicans
(GU = Games Up; GB = Games Back)
5) Clippers: (1.0 GU of NOP... lost season series to NOP 3-0)
Sat. vs. POR
Sun. @ PHX
6) Warriors: (1.0 GU of NOP... season series with NOP tied 2-2)
Fri. @ SAC
Sun. @ POR
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7) Lakers: (0.0 GB of NOP... won season series over NOP 3-1)
Fri. vs. PHX
Sun. vs. UTA
8) Pelicans:
Fri. vs. NYK
Sun. @ MIN
9) Timberwolves: (1.0 GB of NOP... season series with NOP tied 1-1... Final Game April 9)
Sat. @ SAS
Sun. vs. NOP
10) Thunder: (3.0 GB of NOP... lost season series to NOP 3-1)
Thu. @ UTA
Sun. vs. MEM
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
you will notice that in this update I deleted the Mavericks (can no longer mathematically catch the Pelicans for a postseason spot) from the list and italicized the Thunder (can not mathematically overtake the Pelicans for a play-in position) following tonight's action

SAC is still alive for the 2 seed because of the Griz losing tonight. Huge for them playing GS on Friday
Posted on 4/6/23 at 12:38 am to blackandgolddude
Knicks are on a 5 game winning streak even without randle, Friday wont be that easy. Brunson and barret are listed as doubtful, though
Posted on 4/6/23 at 1:17 am to rt3
So is the 5 seed technically still in play, or am I reading that wrong?
Posted on 4/6/23 at 5:15 am to NolaTiger52
Yes.
Then it will be based on total win % vs the tied teams.. We then be tied with LAC, however we got a better conference record to move to 5.
quote:
Clippers beat Lakers 125-118, which moves LAC (42-38) back into top six and keeps LAL (41-39) at seventh place. #Pelicans (41-39) do not have tiebreaker on LAL, so they remain eighth. However, NOLA is now 1 game behind both GSW (42-38) and Clips, with tiebreaker on both of them

Yeah... a 4-way tie with the Clippers, Warriors, & Lakers breaks our way and we're the 5 seed

Just to clear up which teams care about playing right now and don't starting on 4/6:
EAST
the top 5 seeds in the east are set. that means the Knicks don't care about winning.
Brooklyn needs one win or a heat loss to secure the 6 seed
Miami wins the tie breaker with ATL, and is 1 game up on them
ATL wins tie breaker over Toronto and is 1 game up on them
Toronto needs to win out and ATL an Miami to not win a game in order to get out the 9 seed.
Bulls are locked in at 10
WEST
Denver is the 1 seed, have nothing to play for.
Memphis needs one win or a Sac loss to secure the 2 seed, and secure Sac to the 3 seed.
PHX is the 4 seed, have nothing to play for other than team chemistry
Clippers control their destiny for 5th. Win against Blazers and PHX and they are 5th.
GSW can't be lower than 6th if they win against SAC and Portland. Any tie breaker situation and they will lose to every team, so they have to win both game if they want to avoid the playin.
Lakers hold tie breaker over Pels if both win out and finish 7th, Pels 8th.
if 3 way tie at 42 wins with Lakers/Minny/Pels, Minny finishes 7th, Lakers 8th, Pels 9th.
if 3 way tie at 43 wins with Lakers/Clips/Pels, Pels finish 6th, Clips 7th, Lakers 8th.
if a 3 way tie at 43 wins with Lakers/GSW/Pels, Lakers finish 6th, Pels 7th, GSW 8th.
in a 4 way tie at 43 wins with Lakers/Clips/Pels/GSW, Pels 5th, Clips 6th, Lakers 7th, GSW 8th.
OKC holds tie breaker over Dallas, and can't do better than 10th.
Utah appears to be folding it in. Good players didn't play last game, and are all out again tonight.
Hopefully Sacramento tries against GSW, and beats them, which they can easily do since GSW sucks on the road.
Hopefully PHX tries against the Lakers, although i doubt they try against Clips in the last game. Clips are finishing 5th easily.
If we can get SAC and PHX to help us with GSW and the Lakers each losing 1, then that's the only way we finish 6th since we would hold the tie breaker over GSW and be a game up on the Lakers.
and not to pick and choose the what ifs, but that lost to Houston when we were up 15 in the 4th quarter hurt a lot, and we'd be sitting pretty at the 5 spot and control our destiny for the 5 spot had they simply protected a 15 4th quarter lead against the 2nd worst team in the nba.

I think SAC beats GSW and the Suns frick us by losing to LAL, especially on the road.
I’m honestly more worried about finishing 9th and having to go on the road in the second play in and face Minnesota in their place AGAIN.

The Knicks are now locked into the #5 slot no matter what, so it makes sense for them to rest guys.

I just really don’t want to have to play the lakers in La as the 8. They’ve had our number this year
