Ingles is the exact type of guy we need but I agree with you, he’s got a net positive value compared to his contract. A guy who can shoot it above 40% from 3 as well as be a solid passer and defender is worth the $13 mil he’s being paid. That being said I’d give Utah the rest of our 2nd round picks without blinking.

I think we sold one in 2008 to the Blazers, a late pick

Houma Today Article

Found it.

It was Arthur.

quote:

The deal was pending league approval at the time of the Hornets’ selection, so they took Darrell Arthur, a 6-foot-9 forward who averaged 12.8 points last season for national champion Kansas.

Arthur wore a Hornets hat as he shook hands with NBA commissioner David Stern at the Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York because he was not officially a member of the Trail Blazers yet, but completion of the deal was a formality and made official about an hour later.

The Trail Blazers then traded his rights to the Houston Rockets, who shipped them to Memphis in another transaction.

With no incoming rookies, the Hornets will add money that would otherwise have been spent on draft choices into their pot for free agency - in addition to about $3 million in cash received from Portland

They never are that quick with news.

They probably agree on it and submit it to the league immediately. No need to wait on physicals and the like before the team can comment on it.

Byron Scott quote.

We need to get better by adding a veteran. frick this pick.

quote:

“We’re not anymore a team of the future. We’re not looking two or three years down the line,” Hornets coach Byron Scott said. “It was our opinion there really wasn’t anybody there (in the draft) that could help us. If we could trade the pick, sell the pick, whatever the case may be, the bigger picture is trying to get a veteran guy who can come in here and help us right away.”

I remember we sold it and a white dude that never materialized in the league was picked in that spot. That's all I really recall.

I think that was the 2nd we sold to the Knicks. The 1st was for Darrell Arthur (to Memphis I think) in 2008.

Well he went from us to Portland to Houston to Memphis all in the same night I think so you weren't far off.

So, the price of getting trashed by JJ Redick is $2 million, huh?

Worth it or not?

I don't think JJ being butthurt will have any affect on the future of this franchise. If the 2 mil helps lessen the effect of firing our coach in year 1 of his deal, then that works for me.

If doing this was one of the reasons Gayle agreed to can SVG after one year, then let's look at it in proper context:

Who here would not agree to trade away the worst of our four 2nd round picks to get rid of Van Gundy?

Interesting graphic shared by Shamit on twitter:

If you want a better than 50% chance of your pick actually contributing meaningful minutes to your team, you need to be drafting in the top 5.

Which means if you can trade the pick for starters it’s sort of worth it here.

This trade cannot be added into the Memphis deal. It's already been filed with the league office and made official. Memphis deal is still open and able to be expanded
