Judging by some of the posters in this thread that don't like the Pelicans, it must be a fantastic team name.

Honestly, it is not that relevant. You won't even think about it in a few years.
Just quit bitching and learn to love. You don't have a choice.
The same can be said about anyone that gets worked up about another person's opinion on the matter. Look, the name is not going to affect my daily life, but it is disappointing. I'm complaining on a message board ABOUT the renaming.
To the people acting superior to me because I am upset, get a grip on yourself. Half of you bitch about Gordon constantly.

So what is uniquely local? Revelry?
And embracing the birds, icons, etc culturally makes them local.
Seymour D. Fair, baby.
You are clawing at nothing here.

Considering pelican is the state bird. And a something associated with LA/NOLA.
I'd say that makes it unique
I don't think you understand the word unique.

Gordon's injury and mysterious recovery is pretty relevant to things that matter.
The name isn't, and it isn't bad enough to be upset over.

I like Brass ok but with the color scheme and logo, Pelicans will be legit. Krewe, Spirit, Angels, etc are all terrible.

Then I direct you to this quote that you ignored last page
quote:
The pelican is on the State seal, LSU's seal, ULL's seal, Tulane's seal, its Tulane's physical mascot, on the state quarter, state nickname, in the state painting, state bird....WTF more do you need?

Okay, but it's not reasonable discussions. It's mostly people placing meaning and saying "frick Eric Gordon." How exactly is that good for the team? Yeah, let's constantly bash the best fricking player we have. Makes sense to me. Oh, but don't voice displeasure about the name. The name is how we win.

Okay, and pelicans are still not unique to New Orleans, Louisiana, the Gulf Coast, the United States, North America, or the Western Hemisphere.
