Funny thing is Queen has the best defensive rating on the entire team. It's unfair to ask him to anchor the team defensively especially this early on and on such a bad defensive team. A lot of bigs come into the league and struggle defensively especially young big men coming out of college.

Queen may never well be able to anchor the team defensively but he can definitely be a competent big ala Zach Randolph good years with the Grizzlies. He's going to need a complimentary big in the long run to make it work.

Think about it this way ... With Herb back, it means less minutes for Poole.

Add that stat line to the Herb vs Dyson thread

Nice win. Bey is occasionally elite. Sick player to have for $8M a year.

Good win, Pels looked like a competent NBA team tonight. Shows Herb’s presence on the team defensively if not the …Oof Oops Shooting

You left out the 5 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks. Oh, and there's this:

I'm going to be sad when we trade him in a few days.

Herb does so much more for this team that will not show up in the stats. If you watch the game you can see his impact on the team and on the floor when he is out there.

Plus he keeps Poole on the bench.

The below lineup can be strong in my opinion and could win a bunch of games if healthy.

Bey
Jones
Murphy
Williamson
Queen

They could win more games than what we've done so far, but there is no construction of this roster that can win "a bunch" of games.

Obviously, I think that Borrego will keep this big starting lineup that this game featured. We don't really need a PG on the floor when Zion initiates a lot of possessions and when we have DQ on the floor to distribute.

Plus, I think that Shamit is right about this:

We were a more balanced team when the rookies came off the bench. Unfortunately once they got into the starting line up, it severely weakened the bench. And it also neutered Fears a bit since he was playing a role which requires more thinking vs playing his natural aggressive style without having to worry about hierarchy too much.

Playing to win and actually having a chance to win probably means one of them have to go to the bench. And Fears will thrive more as a microwave.

Cheer up. He is going to yield half a decade of second round picks.

this is one of our starters you are talking about... and this is the stat line you are pumping in support of him...

if this guy was on ANY other team, you'd say he's trash and you know it.... but b/c he is on our team, he gets a pass... i don't understand it...

Yep...he's "trash" for sure. Just hope we can find some team that might give us "anything"...to get rid of him. I'm NOT optimistic...

People who think it's only about points scored and offensive output don't understand the game at all. Fact is that half of the time, the game is being played on the defensive end where measurements are not followed by the ordinary fan. This bodes poorly for the vast majority of current Pelican Starters.

For instance, the Pelicans are currently rated 28th in the league in Points Allowed (in the bottom third of the league with the other cellar dwellers). Conversely, the Top Ten in this category are all currently Playoff or Play In bound. That's only a fact!!!

Truth is, in all team sports, defense has to be a constant because offense comes and goes. Maybe I should take this whole post back because, as I think about it, in the Pelicans case, they are, indeed, a constant...A CONSTANT MESS!!!
