A smart gm could take cj zion Val and bi and setup a roster around them of shooters who play d.

3 and d wings that don’t shoot the three are nice but there’s so much more potential there. I know everyone loves herb and dyson but there are better players out there that can shoot and play d.

I’d like to see some more creativity in the lineups when we’re healthy. We’re deep enough to not have to start all of our best guys. Sometimes I think you should run two good units instead of one good lineup and a big drop off with the bench.

Just thinking out loud

I think they still have big time value, especially for the postseason, Herb plays ELITE defense and Dyson is not that far off in terms of defense, and also is a rookie who's passing will only improve.

I get that we love him because he's scrappy, but I bet the plan is for Dyson to eventually take all of Jose's minutes within the next two seasons.

If we could turn one of Jose or Graham into a pure shooter, along with Trey getting his head out of his arse, we'd be deadly on offense.

agree. Team needs another shooter and a backup defensive big.

Mcdermott is the guy I wish they'd go after. He's a movement shooter, unlike Trey, and would do a ton to open up the offense. He'd also be cheap to get.

For the playoffs, we HAVE to find a legit defensive backup at C. Teams are going to eat JV alive in the pick and roll/switches and Larry's just too small for a lot of matchups.

Bogdanovic and OG are shinier objects, but those guys will cost way more and don't solve the JV/rim protection situation that I think will be our biggest issue come playoff time.

Its like people already forgot how we made Ayton and Javale Mcgee look Kareem and Wilt last playoffs.

I would love to add mcdermott & Bamba.

Jax Kira 2 2nds for bamba

Lol, San Antonio isn't taking on 2 years of Graham at $12m just to land 2 2nd round picks. Especially since McDermott has one less year on his deal.

Graham's last year isnt guaranteed. He actually has less guaranteed money left on his deal than mcdermott

Did not know that, should've known that, but didn't.

Regardless, we'd have to give up a first to make that worthwhile for San Antonio.

I really think the defensive concerns about JV are overblown so long as we have decent size to rotate on the help. If there is an issue I’d rather try to fix it by getting a good backup 4 that can provide some backside rim protection (what Jax should bring) when Zion is out. That can kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

It's highly unlikely we'll find a defensive big good enough to move one of JV or Nance out of our playoff rotation.

Yep...afraid that's a problem we'll have to solve after this season is over

Im not talking about moving either one out of the rotation.

I said a backup. A defensive guy in the Jaxson/Willy 3rd big spot that can play WITH Larry, if need be, for defensive purposes.

Just kind of baffling that everybody's so focused on more scoring, when we lost last year in the playoffs because 2 different centers didn't miss for an entire series. We still have zero rim protection a season later.

But you said in the playoffs and there's no shot Jval+Nance plus 1 more center will be in a shortened playoff rotation. So Jval or Nance would actually be out of the rotation.

But neither of those dudes will be in our playoff rotation, is the point.

Because neither is good enough. Not because minutes couldn't be there. Especially in crunch time situations.

6'8" Nance can't be our only "center" option behind JV when we go offense/defense and need stops at the end of games.

Someone like Drummond, for example. He's basically a spot player for Chicago, but is still an elite rebounder a decent defender. Thats all we'd need him for.

I'd bet just about anything we want have a standard playoff rotation with 3 centers.

Jv and Nance will be the centers. It doesn't matter if we go z at the five, give me gang rebounding from the wing position.

Defensively were going to have to be able to switch everything. We'll probably close a lot of games with

CJ
BI
Herb
Naji
Z

You have two knockdown shooters and a guy that gets to the rim at will.

Naji will have to be the corner 3 guy and I'm fine with that because he can finish too. Herb being the worst scorer on the floor can win you a title.

Zion was noticeably limping last night in Cleveland and had to be helped off his seat by his teammates at the end of the game. I wouldn’t expect him back for at two weeks.

I just wanted to bump this thread because when I saw Zion it was clear as day this guy really hurt himself. Three of teammates were covertly lifting him up from his chair and that he was in serious pain every time they gathered around him to picked him up from the chair.

At first I thought it was his hamstring but in looking back I think the guy has some sort of major lower back injury.
