Pretty sure we get “first dibs” on who to sign players on the team after summer league then they go to free agency

I really hate to overreact to summer league but DAMN Bluiett can shoot

They need to lock him up! He's the sharpshooter this team is missing in the backcourt.

Watch Blueitt's tape, a lot of his college 3s are from DEEP and he gets them off QUICK

In his first 29 minutes of Summer League action, Trevon Bluiett has posted 42 points (on 14 of 19 shooting -- which includes 10 of 14 from three-point range), 8 rebounds, 2 assists + 2 turnovers

Tried to tell people @TrevonBluiett was the best shooter in the country. Too many people concerned with what you can’t do, as opposed to what you can. Keep it going!

This guy is doing all he can to get a spot on the team

He’s definitely already earned a spot on the preseason roster

Won't get excited till Crewz tell me Bleuitt is a NBA player. Fell in love with Peter Jok last year and learned a hard lesson
Posted on 7/7/18 at 6:01 pm to Silverfoxx
Jok couldn't even get off the bench in Summer league. It's pretty safe to say that this kid is head and shoulders better.

How does summer league to NBA signings work? Free for all ?

He is a great two-way contract player, but he isn't an NBA player this year IMO. Not for a playoff level team, at least. But I would sign him as a two-way and try to groom him to take over Miller's spot next season as a backup shooter 2/3 if Miller gets too expensive.
I just don't see the athleticism or handles that he would need to create his own shot in the league right now. Nor do I see the physicality to defend real wings in the league. The shot is good, but it comes from too low IMO and could get blocked in the league, or at the very least, take too long to get off as guys run out at him, forcing him to put it on the deck. The good thing, though, is that I think he can make the right pass in a 3-on-2 situation where a guy runs out and he drives past him.
Like I said, I'd give him a two-way, but scoring (particularly off jump shots) impresses me the least in summer league. The length and athleticism is just not the same at that level, nor is the defensive intensity. That's why you see guys like Anthony Morrow light up the summer league. Freaking Forkan Korkmaz scores 40 yesterday, hitting a bunch of 3's. Rookie jaren Jackson hit 8 three's in a game the other day. It doesn't translate to the league.
I have actually been more impressed by his court vision and off ball movement than his shooting. That shows me IQ - which I love. I'd sign him on a two-way, but if someone else wants to give him a guaranteed NBA deal, I'd probably pass.

There was a guy on the court today that I think will be an NBA player for sure, who I would be tempted to offer a guaranteed contract to -- Duncan Robinson. He passed the eye test for me

As MM noted Trevon is not ready. Yet.
And Pels will need roster spots this year. Cause we dont know what to expect from Jackson for whole season (mostly healthwise).
So one probably not ready player in the roster will be enough.
Add to this Ajinca who might be traded later this year and Pels.
Offer him two-way roster spot. Or at best partially guaranteed contract (like 100k. More than GLeague salary).
It will be good to lock him quick.
In the past in good SL team we had Seth. And he become a King.

Really odd to me some of the Pelican blogasphere's reaction to Bluiett.
Some of the same guys that have spent years lamenting this organization's lack of young, cheap player development are really going out of their way to shite on the idea of investing a little time/money into a guy like Bluiett. People are talking about a possible 2-way for the guy, not dumping Jrue to give him the starting SG spot.
Meanwhile I'm watching cartwheels and backflips be done over re siging Ian Clark(who shot 31% from 3 last year and does nothing above average on a basketball court) followed by more pining for a guy like David Nwaba.
Maybe Bluiett falls on his face and never becomes a legitimate NBA player. Thats fine. But this is the exact type of guy we should be trying to fill our G-league team with.

Can you show me one post or tweet where anybody says not to sign him to a two-way deal? Just one.
I have yet to see a single person say that. What I do see people saying is that 2 summer league games where a guy hit some shots does not make him worthy of a guaranteed NBA contract. Especially when he hasn't displayed other skills or athleticism necessary to crack the rotation for an NBA caliber deal.
What you need to understand is that we go through this every year. I remember people getting up in arms that Patric Young didn't get a contract after summer league. Larry Drew III. Jon Brockton, after he showed he could really rebound. Denzel Bowles was a freaking monster.
And yes, once a summer league guy played really well and kinda became an okay player in the league two years later (Seth Curry), but that is the exception, not the rule. Usually, fans of all 30 teams get super excited about some unknown guy who plays well in this tournament full of scrubs and half effort; Where the defense isn't close to NBA caliber because of the lack of athleticism and also the lack of the guys having ever played together. It's a glorified pickup game.
But with all that said, I have yet to see even one person say that he shouldn't be offered a two-way deal. If I am wrong, show me that post or tweet.

Probably a dumb question (especially in Summer League), but why do these guys put up shots and then stand there stationary waiting to see if they go in? I watched Blueitt vs Miami and he did it on nearly every jumper...

Waiting on that long rebound?
