Seems like a downgrade from Jonas for not much savings

10 million vs 1.6 million. I wouldn't call that "not much savings". Factor in his age (32) and the fact that our coach doesn't like his fit and it seems to make pretty good sense to let him walk.

We still likely need help at C, but I think we can all agree that the team expects/ed to move BI for a C.

Depth is much worse. Top 6 is better.

Top 6 matters more, but may not show up until playoffs.

I'll say it again. We go as far as Zion takes us. It's that simple.

I spend more time arguing over mid level dudes like Ingram when really none of it matters unless Zion becomes a top 10 and really a top 5 player.

He shows up out of shape again, and it's just gonna be groundhog day with or without Murray/BI, etc.

If we were just able to trade BI straight up for Allen I would love this roster so much more

I think the idea right now is to have a stopgap until we see what we have and can then flip a deal for Ingram or CJ to get pieces we want.

The 2nd round exceptions adding $0 to our salary for cap purposes keeps us out of the tax in the short term and means we aren’t pulling a deadline deal like last year to dump Kira for financial purposes.

So is this a better roster than our 2023-2024 pelicans?

the Murray deal is great, but yeah, I don't know how much better we are.

Just doing the Murray deal and nothing else, and losing all of those players, and not getting a legit starting Center (even a C level one), is pretty tough.

They will have to committee it until they can make a trade.

Lots of small ball and Offense first...which we all know is Willie's bread and butter...

We lost A LOT of depth. Naji, Dyson, JV, and Larry all played big minutes for us.

And considering our starting lineup was a net negative last year it's concerning.

They only don’t count against the cap from July 1st to July 31st

After July 31st they count against the cap and tax like any other contract.

Still buys us some time for a move. We get to fill those spots without being over the apron yet.

It doesn’t though. The only reason they did it that way was so teams could sign their 2nd round contracts early without having to worry about it affecting the way they are able to use their cap space.

There are zero penalties for being in the tax in July, so using the exception has no bearing on our cap at all

as it stands, we need to 4 guys to shoot at a high rate. I dont seee us getting much scoring out of the center spot even though i like the guys we have.

Yeah, I believe what this is mainly for is say we traded a player like Duren into the Kira trade exception and that put us over the Apron with Karlo and Reeves on the books. That Duren trade would get rejected by the league as illegal for putting us over the 1st Apron. But in this magic window in July where 2nd round exception contracts don't count, the transaction would go through.

* I haven't done the math to see if Duren would put us over the Apron, but you get the picture.

2nd Round Exception in new CBA is a huge help

Those 2nd rounders will be more important under the new cba when rounding out a roster.

But then the contract of the 2nd rounder wouldn’t go through, and then we are hard capped at the apron with a non filled roster and ABSOLUTELY having to dump someone.

So that simply wouldn’t be smart to do.

Also, we could have Karlo signed and trade for Duren and stay under the apron
