And that is without taking a possible QPon return into account.
If he is able to get on the floor, that is a major step up from a $4m dead roster spot.

I really don't think there is going to be a backup PG spot, outside of Holiday. Holiday and Rondo can handle the 48 primary ballhandler minutes, while Holiday will also play some secondary ballhandler minutes when he's on the court with Rondo.
IMO, it wouldn't make sense to use someone else as the primary ballhandler, outside of garbage time.

crawford (if rondo & clark are any good) is going to see a huge reduction in minutes, the way i see it. injuries could always change that but assuming it goes rondo>holiday>moore>clark thats a bunch of guard minutes
alot also depends on miller being playable...if he isn't then yes crawford would play. if he is, i dont see it

This is so true. However, not to be a downer, but the disappointment comes in when you look at our potential moves in the future (There are little to none that seem viable). I mean, I'd be so pumped up for this team if we didn't have the Asik problem. We'd have dramatically improved our team by now if he weren't on our books.

2016 opening day rotation
1. Tim Frazier
2. E'Twaun Moore
3. Solomon Hill
4. Anthony Davis
5. Omer Asik
Projected 2017 opening day rotation
1. Rajon Rondo
2. Jrue Holiday
3. Solomon Hill
4. Anthony Davis
5. Demarcus Cousins
It's like night and day

Funny thing is we could of made the playoffs before adding Cousins last season. This entire project is reliant on chemistry.

Right, I would think that Holiday and Rondo would get about 60 minutes combined, maybe more. That leaves 36 minutes left at guard. Moore and Clark will probably get about 20 minutes each (with Moore getting some minutes in a 3 guard lineup).

MM throws out a bunch of potential trades for Moore+2018 1st:
I like the Crowder deal and maybe the Chandler one. These could be deals we could wait and try to make during the season if Clark and Crawford are playing well and Hill/Miller are struggling.

Hypothetical Moore and a Pick for a wing trades:
1. To Boston, for Crowder
2. With Asik to Atlanta for Bazemore
3. To Denver, for Chandler
quote:
4. To Orlando, with QPon, for T. Ross
5. To Portland, with Pon, for Harmless
That's all I got. And none of them really move the needle IMO

And to be clear, I wouldn't do ANY of them. I like going guard heavy and giving Miller a chance. Lets see how the season starts

personally i am stunned the pels still have their 2018 draft pick left at this point. maybe dell will shock the world and actually keep it
asik is not just unplayable at this point he might be disabled...they arent gonna find a taker at any reasonable price. assuming whoever might be coming back in a moore + 1st deal is not a difference maker, then riding out asik and using the pick seems more and more likely

I'm curious if they ride out the offseason. Teams dump salary at the deadline to lower or avoid taxes every year. We've been on the receiving end of that a few times. Would they bring back Dante and figure out who to dump to save money later? That would pretty much rule out stretching Asik, but if the team ends up with more talent than minutes maybe you can use a Clark or Crawford or Miller to dump a QPon or Ajinca and get under the tax.

Any team we traded him to would stretch him regardless. A team was never going to take on his $25M for a reasonable price.

That will change this year thanks to a difference in the language on the tax.
It's no longer calculated based on your payroll at the end of the season but on how much you actually paid out to the players.
Ex - If we dump QPon at the deadline for tax purposes, we only save ($4m / 82) x number of games remaining in the season, not the full $4m.
That is why the new RFA deals have poison pill clauses saying the players get paid x% of their contract money the first week of the season. It is to discourage the team with their rights from matching then trading them.

Sounds like we are stuck with this a-hole for two seasons then.
At that point he becomes semi-valuable because he counts for $11m in trade value despite his guaranteed money only being $3m.

I would absolutely do the Crowder deal.
Great contract.

Right, but if they're $1 million away from the tax after Clark and resign Dante for say $3, then they need to shed $2 million which is doable if you move early enough. You probably have to make the trade in December/January rather than waiting for the deadline.

I almost, and I mean almost, think the Asik injury is a blessing in disguise. I'm terrified that Dell will try to attach a pick to Asik in order to move him. Since Asik would fail any physical, I see his injury as "Dell Demps Insurance."

What do you guys think of Terrence Ross?
I'm actually intrigued

I think all Ross brings is shooting, which isn't a bad thing, but let's see how good Miller is first. You might be able to get the same production for 1/5 the price and keep your pick.

If everything goes as planned, that is not valuable to us unless we are facilitating for another team. We should be deep into cap hell and won't be able to take on extra salary.
