Interesting trade machining from MM

Easy way to do this: Pierre to Cleveland for Orlando's 2nd round pick and Miami's 2015 1st. Then, send Orlando pick for Jordan Hill.
You effectively get Jordan Hill and 2015 1st rounder for Pierre Jackson. Not a bad haul for a throw in to a big trade.

I feel like any Miami 1st round pick should just be considered a 2nd round pick for the foreseeable future. Same quality as an early 2nd but costs more money.

Why would Cleveland send TWO picks for Pierre? Is his market really that hot? Is LA just not interested in Jackson?
No thanks on Deng unless they move Gordon or Evans. He will be asking for a ton of money this summer. Rumors are he laughed at the Bulls offer of something like 4/$40

Can anyone verify if you could couple the rights to Pierre with the DPE? If not, you could probably trade him for a second or two and use that pick to tickle the Lakers.
Exceptions do not really work that way. They are not sent anywhere. A good way to think of them is a little extra pouch attached to the salary cap bag. You can fill the pouch. That's it.
Trade exceptions are residues from nonsimultaneous trades and behave like this, as well.
The traded player exception is more of a set of rules for swapping players than a real 'slot' a salary must fit into.
In this case, all 3 may be at work. The TPE sets up the rules for moving salary. Thr Pelicans can receive Hill's salary into their DPE while giving up something of no cap value, if they like, such as a second round draft choice or rights to an unsigned player. If this happens, the Lakers will have created a trade exception for themselves equal to Hill's contract value. They can use that later if they want or forget about it. That trade exception has different rules associated with it than the DPE.

Yeah, and we don't even need Cleveland to agree to it...

quote:First, Cleveland is not going to give that much for Pierre Jackson. Second, that seems a bit much to send to the Lakers for what could amount to a 20-25 game rental (when we are not in the playoff hunt). They are the ones needing to save luxury tax dollars. Offer them the 2016 2nd rounder. Considering they were willing to give him away a day ago, that should be plenty for a guy they do not intend on re-signing.

@WojYahooNBA: Philadelphia will receive two second round picks from Cavs for Hawes, league source tells Yahoo Sports.

Why would we take only 1 2nd for Pierre? He looks like a legit scorer in the league, most 2nd rounders don't end up sticking in the league at all. Pierre is the type of talent that you give up multiple 2nds to get when they fall. Yeah Dleague, but watch some of the highlights and tell me you think he can't replicate some of that against NBA players. He's got a quick release, ridiculous hops and is very experienced at shooting over taller players. If you get too close to him he'll just run between your legs.

I think the idea is wholly unrealistic from the Cleveland side, but it only has the 2nd going to the Lakers.

Cleveland is obviously out now that they traded 2 2nds for a rental of Hawes.

Philly is going to need to absorb a contract or two to get over the salary floor. How about Gordon for Turner and Tony Wroten straight up then we renounce Turner next year?

This wouldn't be a franchise changing trade, but it would be very helpful, even as an end of the year rental. Although playoffs out of reach, the goal is still to win as many games as possible and make some progress with the players we have here. Hill would step in and be the best Center on the roster, obviously excluding Davis.

I don't see teams handing over two picks for him. Spencer Hawes just got moved for 2 2nds. Yes, he is an expiring, but he is a player at a position of need in the NBA and has a proven record in the NBA.
I think you move Pierre for a current player that can help. Just a 2nd isn't much of a return, but I have no idea if they even plan on bringing him up. If he isn't part of future plans, I'd take one 2nd for him.

I think Pierre has a place in the league. But I don't think he gets beyond bench spark plug--a lesser Pargo. He has some serious limits and flaws.

OR
We could S&T Turner for an Ayon/Vasquez level asset.

This answers my question. That said, how far are we from the tax line? Would Hill's remaining salary count towards the tax?

Pierre Jackson (a player that has long sucessful European career written all over him) for a player and a first round pick.
In other news, the Pelicans went on an amazing winning streak and qualified for the 2014 NBA Playoffs.
