Pels get the #1 pick, who would you want to draft?

We will likely end up 8-10, and get a guy like Mathurin, who I would be very happy with.

But, for fun, who would you want to take at #1.

For me, it’s between Banchero and Jabari Smith, and I think I would take Smith first.

6’ 10 and a great 3 point shooter. Can’t go wrong with Banchero or Jaden Ivey either. I think Chet is a risk

Chet is the ideal 5 to pair with Zion. Can shoot, rebound, defend his position and hold his own when switched onto guards.

Trade down and get Chet or Ivey with the 3rd or 4th pick. Our paint defense got exposed in the playoffs and Chet has the length/wingspan to be a Gobert type player. Ivey would initially be the perfect 6th man and give the bench an elite guard who can create his own shot.

This is the laziest take that for some reason became popular. Is he just a risk because he’s skinny? There isnt a single skill in basketball that he does poorly. He doesn’t get bullied by even the biggest college centers. He is very quick laterally for 7 feet, can dribble and pass, and can shoot 50% from 3 from the college line, so he could even play PF if you think he’s too skinny. Also, no history of him having injury problems

His team also just wins when he’s on the court. He was a BPM of 15 while his player of the year teammate was BPM of 9

I think Chet is a good player but I don’t see him as an instant impact. “Skinny” is putting it politely.

He would be 100x better than Hayes at the 4 spot, though. I just wouldn’t draft him over Jabari, who is 6ft 10 and shoots 42% from 3.

I'd be split on Chet or Jabari. Banchero makes no sense for us.

My ideal scenario is #1, and OKC gets either 2 or 3, and wants to swap with us, and will give up multiple assets and take on a contract to do so.

Still able to get one of Chet, Jabari, or Ivey at 2 or 3, lower salary slotting, get future assets, dump either Temple or Graham.

I haven't seen much of Chet besides a few highlight clips. My question with him is, is he a skilled big like Porzingis and Anthony Davis, or is he a big skilled player like KD or BI? I'm not saying I wouldn't want another BI, but everyone that thinks he's a great fit is penciling him in at center. Will he be a center in the NBA?

If they land 1, they take Chet no question. This series taught us a lot about our deficiencies on defense at the 5. We literally had no answer for Ayton/Magee for almost the entire series.

If we don’t move up at all, I want a guy who can create, has high quality handles, shows promise to score on all 3 levels, and defend at a high level. We need more than just shooting imo. We need another guy who can be used as a 6th man type to relieve our star plays when they rest and one who can be plugged into multiple lineups. That’s a lot to ask for but I think we have a chance to add that guy at 8.

I don't watch college hoops so can't speak directly there but on a pod someone read a stat that was something along the lines of all top 5 picks over the past 20 years, Jabari Smith had the 2nd or 3rd lowest 2pt FG%.

I feel like that makes him also pretty darn risky but it seems most think he's a lock to be good.

That’s a good point. His FG% and 3pt % are almost identical, which is weird.

Another poster brought up Chet being good for the paint defense and he also is a good 3pt shooter. Would fit Zion very well.

I love Banchero’s game but he would be redundant for this lineup.

I honestly have no idea.

I have some concerns with Chet, but most of them are really amateur NBA fan sort of stuff. He seems to disappear at times, but there’s a ton of stuff he does without the ball in his hands at a high level.

With Paolo he’s skilled offensively and I see all this stuff about how good he is defensively, but his motor on that end is colder more often than it is hot and quite frankly he scares me. If you can’t play hard in high school and college why would you once you reach the league?

And Jabari I guess has the least number of questions, but his inability to create for himself at a star level is a bit concerning. But he’s so good at other things on both ends of the floor that I don’t know that you don’t just accept that. I guess it’s just the thought that his upside may not be as great as Chet, Paolo, or even Ivey.

Maybe I need to watch more film, but I feel like he's got pretty solid skills to create. Turn around jumper looked really good, and saw numerous drives to the basket against good competition. Good defender, good length, pretty shot.

You can't overthink it.

Look at this roster, we need defenders and 3 point shooting out of guys that don't need the ball in their hand.

We already have CJ, BI and Zion that all need tbe ball in their hands, we can't add another high volume guy to them, we need more Trey Murphy types, shooters that play defense.

Jabari or Ivey. I like Ivey's size and skill set.

Jabari has the ability to be an elite 3 point shooter.

All players have flaws, and his is that he can barely dribble. I know that's an over exaggeration, but his ground game is extremely poor for someone so talented.

Get chet. He would help defensively on athletic bigs. He wouldve been huge against ayton.

Also based on what i saw, he doesnt need the ball in his hands to be effective and can shoot the 3 which is exactly what we need.

And since we have jonas, we have a bruiser down low to counter the bruiser type centers

There’s a fine line you have to walk between need and best available in my opinion. The look of an NBA roster changes so quickly you can’t just strictly look for need, so even though we don’t necessarily need a Paolo type if the team decides he’s clearly their #1 option then they should take him and figure the rest out later.

But if they ultimately feel that Paolo grades out similarly to the other guys as a prospect and its close, then I would take one of the others.
