MLE only applies to teams over the cap for which we aren’t. The only thing we can do is move Moore in one of the following scenarios
For a player with a larger contract that fits a need. He can be traded for someone who’s contract is up to 12.96 in salary.
To a team with cap space creating a trade exception that we denounce creating more cap room.
Sign and trade for a player we want that again has a contract up to 12.96 million

Lofty signing if true, mates. Favours is a great fit

It will be tough to trade Moore to someone with cap space considering we were one of the top 5 teams in space before the Favors deal. Just not many teams with money left.

The brilliance of this move is we’re trading for that potential five next to Zion and getting to test out the fit for a season before making a determination moving forward.

Can Favors knock down a 3
Posted on 6/30/19 at 11:42 pm to Macintosh
He has a 1 year contract and was going to be waived, so I hope they only sent seconds....no first, unprotected or not.

Is Justin Holiday still a possible signing? Any ideas of who we may be going after to close out the cap space (if we dont make a etwann trade)

It isnt the worst thing that our 5 wont be a 3 point shooter. He isnt great at shooting by any means, but he has a respectable midrange shot that requires attention. It isnt spreading the floor to the 3pt line, but spreading the floor nonetheless

Yeah I was gonna say he has a solid midrange

As far as I can tell it’s official. Favors himself has already been quoted on Twitter with his comments about the move.
On a related note, how much space do we have now?

He’s got a nice shot. I’m sure he can develop a solid 3 pt shot like Brook Lopez and Horford did later in their career.

I’m sure he’s still a good player. I’ve never watched him much so I don’t know. Would have just liked to see him be able to knock down a 3 for Zion’s sake but a reliable midrange is good too.
I also like that he’s only 27

I guess you don’t know how waiver works. Here’s a context to it.
quote:
Waivers is a 48-hour period where teams are allowed to bid on a player’s contract, and if they win the bid, that player no longer enters unrestricted free agency. Instead, he signs with the team that placed the winning bid. The team making the bid has to be able to fit the player’s existing contract into its payroll or an unused salary-cap exception. This notably happened in 2000, when the Bulls acquired then waived Bruce Bowen as part of the Toni Kukoc trade. Bowen never cleared waivers. Instead, both the Knicks and Heat put in waiver claims on the defensive stopper. When two teams put a waiver claim in on the same player, the player goes to the worst team of the two options. The Heat were a half-game worse than the Knicks at that point — coincidentally, the only time the entire season Miami was worse than New York — so Bowen spent a year in Miami before his decade in San Antonio. If another team claims a player off waivers and wins the bid, they assume the remainder of his contract and the original team clears him off their payroll.
OK, so the player has cleared waivers. Now what? When this happens, his remaining salary is either reduced or totally wiped clean from his old team, depending on what has been agreed upon. This is where things get fun. Now, the player becomes a free agent, free to join any team interested in signing him.
Pelicans would have to win the bid and beat out the worst teams. Who know what teams he would be on? Instead Utah asked Favors what team he wanted to be traded to. Derrick Favors chose the Pelicans and we gladly accepted giving them 2nd rounder. Utah won’t get any more than that because they just wanted to clear cap space for Bojan and wanted to help out Favors. If Utah would’ve waived him, I have a feeling he would have gone to the Knicks or Grizzlies due to them having worst records than the Pelicans.

[woj]Pelicans are sending 2021 and 2023 second-round picks -- both via Warriors -- in trade for Favors, league source tells ESPN.
