Outside of the center committee, I’d say all of the rotation roles are filled, at least long term. Trying to find a way to upgrade JV, Nance or even Zeller/JRE makes sense. Pushing Dyson or Hawk further back in the rotation doesn’t…Unless in addressing the center position you commit to the tax and do have more of a need to win now.

I think your core is

Dyson, Hawk, Herb, Trey, Zion

Those are the people I just would not sell

I want to keep others as well, but those are the ones I want to keep together in any circumstance

I agree with this. Moving Ingram frees up playing time for Hawkins and Trey and helps salary wise. Would love it if we could flip BI for a better C, but I don't think that player is out there/available.

Thinking more Naji and Kira for Burks and a 2nd seems more likely

I just can’t see them paying the tax for someone like Burks when ducking the tax is so much easier, especially after Hawk’s last game. If we are legit looking at Burks it’s because other, bigger deals are being lined up where the tax is unavoidable.

That’s good point but I’m of the belief that we need to open up Hawk minutes while also limiting Jose minutes and I think getting someone like Burks while offloading Naji could do that. Would rather just make it Hawk and Ryan but don’t know if Griff will do that.

Look at my trade on the 1st page that’s a multiplayer Kira package for a cheap backup big like Nick Richard’s. You may need to route Naji to a 3rd team, but you should be able to add him to a deal like that and probably pull the draft assets out, or let them come from a 3rd team.

What to do with Naji is one of the bigger questions for the trade deadline in my mind. Especially if they think they can’t afford to keep him next year. Do you keep him as extra playoff depth? He could be helpful in some matchups like LeBron. Or do you cash out for 2nds while you can?

Unfortunately it’s a business, and moving Naji is probably the right move right now.
I love his energy on and off the court and you want guys like that on your team, but we’ve got too many guys and Naji is just taking minutes from more important future pieces.

I imagine Naji is going to get a Kenny hustle type deal from a team that is going to play him more regularly than we will going forward. It’s really better for both the Pels and Naji. We don’t need to pay our 12th man $6-8M/yr.

I threw this out on the Pistons Pulse podcast on the fly today...

-DET created a $5.7M TPE in today's trade

-NOP is $2.9M over the luxury tax

-Kira Lewis Jr. makes $5.7M on his expiring deal

-If DET clears a roster spot, could they take in Lewis via the TPE and recoup a 2nd?

Interesting.

Also, Cavs have to sign someone by the 18th and the Blazers have to sign someone by the 20th to be in compliance with roster requirements.

We could probably flip Naji to Cleveland as they’ve been looking for a bigger wing player for awhile now, and they could send a 2nd or two to Detroit for them to take Kira from us.

That would put us well below the tax and be able to sign Ryan and a buyout if we want or JRE

Moves like that hurt morale. You have to get a player that is perceived to be an upgrade back or it just looks like a money saving move that would piss off the players for giving up Naji for nothing.

It would be a move to clear minutes for Hawk while getting Naji to a team he would still get a bunch of minutes on.

I think they would rather see that happen than Naji get benched

Something like that is extremely likely to happen, unless we end up making a move at the center position.

Don't see the need to dump Naji (although we probably will not re-sign him in the offseason). We have a 2030 2nd as well as the ability to send enough cash to pay off the remainder of the salary he is due this year.

A name I think we'll start hearing about soon is Patrick Williams.

A bit undersized as a PF, but he's a solid defensive player/tweener. Shoots the ball well, but he's never taken that next big step chicago has been waiting for. Wouldn't be a bad backup PF IMHO.

The question is, how we do we get him and how much will he cost to keep (MLE?)

How many 2nds, 1 or 2? What's the odds of actually hitting on one?

What are you giving up for him? The Bulls still like him a lot. They're not giving him up for anything less than a good prospect imo.

It's not about drafting with those 2nds. 2nds are useful in many of the unsexy, but necessary transactions. It took 4 seconds to dump Devonte Graham and that kind of wiped us out. Use a 2nd to dump Kira and you're depleting your low stockpile of 2nds again.

If Naji is going to leave anyway in the summer because you can't afford the pay day he's earned, you have to consider getting something for him now. The question is, what's more valuable to the Pels? Another half season of Naji, or whatever you can cash him out for now? I've already said it's not an easy decision. I can see some playoff matchups where you would want someone like Naji available.

Im really liking Onyeka Okongwu as our trade target. Apparently everyone in ATL but Trae and Jalen Johnson is for sale. He just signed a good deal in the offseason.

We would have to trade Larry which would suck but OO is basically a younger, less injury prone version of Larry.

Larry, Naji, Pels 24 1st for OO

Then dump Kira to Detroit and sign Matt Ryan and JRE to deals.
