thrillho has the cap stuff down pat on this one.

I really haven't looked at the cap at all. My point is, I'd rather a D league brute than Oden. He will be a waste of team money and a roster space.

Allow me to compliment the man with the nutty pink baby bear avatar thing the way I allowed you to steal my wings. My only consolation is that medium heat sauce was too much for you delicate, lace-panties-like palate.

As far as your point goes . . . man, I go back and forth on this.

I see the roster as actually better than most of you, which is weird. To me, to take a chance on a "young vet" with a flexible deal (if it can be had) who could really improve as an asset (i'm not looking for domination) . . . then isn't it worth the risk?

Forget him. Just a better Lopez flip.

Yes? No? Maybe? You don't know? Could I repeat the question?

Jester, low risk high reward doesn't imply that you will receive said high reward.

I think there are a ton of players who fit that criteria and don't have a handful of shattered glass for knees.

I know what it means. The lottery is low risk, high reward, but I'm not dumb enough to buy a ticket.

A ton . . . so 7 to 10?

I'm not sure how many have the upside Oden does, but many likely have a higher minimum expected return. Agreed 100%.

But would you snatch one if it was attached to a wing?

Good comparison actually. If you buy one ticket, for say, 5 bucks and don't win, who cares? Its five bucks. You don't have to buy one again if it doesn't work out. Greg Oden is the same way. He will cost you 1-2 million at most. Extremely cheap in the NBA. If it doesn't work out, big deal. If it does, then you get the player Portland was willing to take over Kevin Durant 6 years ago

The problem is we don't have enough information to make this assessment. Not only do we have no clue just how risky his injury is, we also don't know what we're trading to take on said risk. Giving up a roster spot and a minimum contract is pretty low risk, but if you had to give up Jason Smith you'd need to feel very comfortable about Oden's health. Fortunately we have a good GM in place to consider such things.

@Tiger I agree. I think if it comes down to something like that, dell likely won't do it.

Only if the wing is mild or shoots over 38% from the arch
