The problem is we don't have enough information to make this assessment. Not only do we have no clue just how risky his injury is, we also don't know what we're trading to take on said risk. Giving up a roster spot and a minimum contract is pretty low risk, but if you had to give up Jason Smith you'd need to feel very comfortable about Oden's health. Fortunately we have a good GM in place to consider such things.

Up above I noted the issue with the cost which is wholly apart from the risk.

To me, it's a question of cost. It's also a matter of really how much we need to worry about this . . . long term, what difference does it make.

I wouldn't blink to send and set of our nonguaranteed guys over for him.

Exactly what I said from the get go. If it means even Smith leaving I wouldn't want Oden.

Arch? Like Golden Arches?

Going after my nuggets now?

Let me tell you something, tiny dancer: Nuggets were on sale big time in February 2010, at least in South Florida. I ate 20 before the Super Bowl and had 20 in the car for me after. Buffalo sauce.

They were ok before, nasty after.

But that's my Super Bowl food.

You mess with my nuggets, nasty as they may be, you gonna know something.

Funny, that sounds like what I was about to say to you. Just replace "make funny jokes" with "prove you are more intelligent than other posters".

I'd rather read funny jokes myself

Sam Bowie does ring alot of bells. Better modern medical technology and he likely isn't the "unknown" he is today

I'd consider Smith.

I would.

I know I'm going to get some nut punches, but you HAVE TO look at it before you can dismiss it.

He's expiring. He's coming off an injury. He fouls like mad. We just got two more young centers with some similarities. He racks up fouls to the point where no one could consider him a full-time big minutes guy.

Not knocking the guy. Just looking at the facts, thinking about them.

He has a trade veto, so there's that.

Dude I haven't spent much time on here lately, but every time I do I see these dudes calling you out. And you're responses have been shockingly subdued. Are you feeling ok?

I'm wishy washy on smith for Oden. But honestly I wouldn't die if we traded him for Oden.

I'm on vacation, so I'm letting it slide. Wait until I spend Wednesday at work. Smoke will rise.

Ok I'm warning eveRyone to keep arms and legs inside the ride at all times. If you have heart issues, consult your doctor before entering. If you are pregnant, or think you may be pregnant, you probably shouldn't get on this ride.

Jester, I've been told that the mods don't frequent our board, so you may be safe to let it all out.

Late night update:

quote:

There are growing indications that the New Orleans Pelicans are going to be a factor in the Oden chase as well.

Sources close to the situation told ESPN.com that the Pelicans have been booked for a Wednesday sitdown with Oden and will also get serious consideration from the former No. 1 overall pick as he decides where to relaunch his career after being sidelined since early in the 2009-10 season.

The Pelicans, sources said, are building their pitch around the fact that going to New Orleans would enable Oden to make his comeback far away from the media glare and with no immediate pressure to cope with as he tries again to bounce back from the knee issues that have limited the 25-year-old to just 82 career regular-season games since being drafted in 2007.

The presence of former Blazers assistant coach Monty Williams as the head man in New Orleans -- someone who already knows Oden well -- is seen as another element working in the Pelicans' favor along with the fact that their young core of players are all in Oden's age range.

This is getting real. Is Oden actually ready to play this season? Is he finally "100%" now?

If he's healthy and in shape, pretty sure he starts from day 1 here.

Also, gives us a scary good team this season.

He's not really 100%. He's looking to go low profile and basically see if he can work to get back. I love just the idea of that. I don't think he wants a Miami. I really don't think he wants Dallas. IMHO, its down between the spurs and us
