He's not worth much more than a minimum deal. I doubt he wants to risk being a cripple to help the pels win a few games.
Eta- I was saying high risk in the context of that money, not the whole team. Risky for the team if we pay him a decent bit tho Nbd

I agree that Oden, on this team with a 1y deal at $2m and change is low risk, high reward.
This is all I'm trying to say. I don't want to give him any meaningful money. 2 million on him won't break us if he doesn't workout. Not to mention I don't think we would sign him if he isn't even close to playing shape. I don't think Dell is stupid

If we sign him for 2 years, does that screw up our chances of signing players like Deng, Gortat or Hawes next year?
Posted on 7/15/13 at 8:34 pm to Suntiger
If it does then I don't want him. I want him at the expense of nobody else
Posted on 7/15/13 at 8:37 pm to Suntiger
We don't know his value until somebody offers him something and we don't know what dell wil lthrow him. So, it's hard to know the implications

That's my main concern is screwing up our ability to sign a player next year.
IMHO, I think Oden may play in 3-10 NBA games in the future, but I think he's done.

With minimum roster cap holds, we're going to be pretty much up against the cap regardless of what we do with Oden. If we don't move Gordon, next season will pretty much be limmited to extending Smiht and using the MLE, which is going to be ~$5.5m. That could probably get Hawes. Deng or Gortat won't be options unless, again, we move a pretty significant player.

$2M isn't meaningful money? Sorry, I'm not willing to pay market value for a dozen broken eggs. I'd rather spend the MLE on a player capable of jumping without suffering a catastrophic injury. You know, maybe someone who can even play a minute or two when needed.

Oden won't affect that. We've already used the room level exception this year, and we'll still be able to use the MLE next year whether Oden is on the team or now.

You do realize that our roster is pretty much complete? Who would you like to sign that would even break the line up. You and I don't know whether he can play this season or not. All your doing is making assumptions. So tell me. Who would you use the Money on that would see meaningful minutes or have half the ability he has? I'm done arguing this as it is apparent he will never play again from what doctors on here are telling me. If he never plays then cool. If he does then cool too.

I'd rather give Withey the 5 minutes a game Oden can play before his knees spontaneously combust instead of wasting our roster space and money.
Posted on 7/15/13 at 9:20 pm to LSU1SLU
Exactly. If Oden gets hurt, then withey gets his minutes, fine. We arent rebuilding anymore guys. Cap space saving is done. U wont be getting anyone next year unless someone major gets traded which could be done whether Oden is on the team or not. Oden is, in fact, very low risk-high reward

Okay, take whatever money you are Willing to give him and spend it on someone with legs capable of supporting his own weight.

bullshite.

And you aren't? You are assuming this "high reward" bullshite. There is a reason this "high reward" has no offers in hand.

thrillho has the cap stuff down pat on this one.

Also, "you are" contracts to "you're."
