A second round pick won't require sending useful players and will cost significantly less than $3M. He will also have cartilage in his knees.

Who is the useful player they are sending out? Thrill or 42 can and probably have explained the cap ramifications, so forgive my ignorance if I misspeak.

If Oden means not picking up Thomas, I'm fine with that.

Edit:Just read TigerinAtl's post in the other thread. Not sure I would give up Smiht considering the frontcourt depth chart, I would probably ship out Rivers though.

You know you're getting old when you agree with that 100%

TigerinATL made a good post on it. It will probably have to be Smiht or Rivers to make the salary matching work.

Saw that. I didnt realize Portland still held his rights.

I dont think I give up Smiht. Rivers is another story. He's basically the 4th guard and Roberts might be better anyway. You lose Rivers' defense, but you can pair Roberts w/ one of the top 3 guards and Aminu to help him.

I'll be kind of pissed if it's Rivers, and I highly doubt they would part with him.

I like JSmoove, but he's a tad overrated on here because he's a fan favorite. That being said, I'm not sold on Oden giving you anything more than Smith throughout the season.

If Rivers was traded to make this deal work it would be hilarious here.

Would the Rivers Sunshine pumpers jump on the Oden bandwagon or would they continue to ride Rivers dick. A la Marcus Thornton.

No way this happens IMO though.

That's the big issue. The chances are very high that he provides less than who we ship out.

That'll suck. I'd hate to give up a guy for another, and get less or nothing. But hey, a gamble is a gamble.

There's that term again. Apparently if a rookie has a rough season you can no longer support him and it's unreasonable for you to get excited about possible improvement.

I look at it like this:

Jason Smith will not be getting BIG MINUTES from us at center.

He's a more similar ryan anderson type player, not so much of a banger.

We will be doing a 2-3 way split of center minutes divided up by a bunch of players anyways.

Greg Oden's Part Time minutes will be 3 times more valuable to our team than Jason Smith part time minutes.

It also allows us to give more minutes to AD and Ryan Anderson on the court together and throughout the game.

How can you possibly say that without any knowledge as to Oden's heath right now and without knowing who we ship out?

Occam's Razor. I can't assume that his knee are suddenly healthy when his entire career says otherwise. Did he get slapped on the forehead by a preacher?

Oden is a starting Center.
Smith is a backup Center.

Give me Oden any day. Worth the risk.

I would hate this if we give up Jason Smith or Austin Rivers for this guy. Oden may be a low risk-high reward guy, but there's a small chance this experiment will end up any other way than a failure. I'm willing to give it a shot if it means losing Lance Thomas, Pierre Jackson, Brian Roberts, etc. But if we lose someone like Rivers or Smith, it just does not become worth it.

Since when?

Smith has started at Center since Oden has.
