You can get devices that can record OTA feeds.

You're more dedicated than I am. I haven't DVR'd a sporting event in like 10 years. If i miss it live, so be it.

I already have devices that record my 4k cable feed. I'm not going out and buying a bunch of bullshite hardware because THEY massively fricked up their roll-out.

The cost like $30.
No one said you need to mount it on your roof and connect it to every tv.
pick a tv close to a window, get a mohu leaf and stick it in the window, preferrably one that is open to the direction of your local antennas, and there are apps that show you where the antenna is.

Last season, I could watch any Pelicans game on any of the televisions in my house in addition to multiple tablets and phones. It sounds like that will not be the case this season.

The bigger issue here is for instance in Baton Rouge, channel 9.3 isn't in HD. You can't even watch the game on this channel b/c it's so fuzzy looking. I think there's another duplicate channel that is in HD, but the signal for it is extremely weak. the picture quality is so shitty that i'd rather listen to the game on the radio than watch it on tv.

For the games that were OTA in Baton Rouge, I went to Streameast on my phone and mirrored the game to my tv, that's how shitty the OTA option was for me, someone who has a attic mounted antenna for the last 10 years, as well as two mohu leafs in a window, and it was a better option for me to mirror an illegal stream onto my tv then try to use the free OTA option.

If it makes you feel any better, those games looked really shitty on the alternate cable channel they offered last year, too.

There will be a streaming option.

Agree 100%!. This is supposed to be a professional NBA franchise.

I got kids, man.

The aggravating thing is that with all those TVs, LSU, F1, and Pelicans are about the only things I watch.

This was genius for this franchise and others to come. They took an existing free platform with all kinds of space. They didn’t convert an old channel they created a new one on 7.1 in New Orleans for example. Why? Pretty much unlimited air space. They then reach over 9 million people, no longer do fans or teams need to be held hostage by cable/ streaming/ satellite providers or the channels. ( see espn). They completely flipped the leverage and it’s good for the teams and their fans. The one thing the fans and team had in common in the old way is they were both suffering in terms of leverage. This franchise suffered for years because of the old system. What will be more interesting is does direct tv put it on the local tier or sports tier. Technically this is a local channel. Do the Pelicans push for this, maybe we’ll see, but what’s different is they have the leverage if they think it’s important. If not do consumers sue, it’s a local channel. No matter what, these games are now always available because your Chanel can’t be removed! Unless you’re too lazy or cheap to get an antenna. BTW. This channel signal seems to be very strong compared to what I need to do with my antenna to get some other locals. Again….. Genius move I’m just shocked it came from our market.

For now I have confidence they will have a streaming contract ready for the start of the regular season. It may take a little longer to figure out getting on Cox, DTV, YTTV, Hulu, etc., but thats ok. While I feel for the folks in BR/Laf who apparently are having trouble pulling a strong OTA signal, this is the best decision for building and growing the NO and gulf coast fan base.

Someone also said people don't use antennas and OTA channels. Everyone I know in South Louisiana has OTA antennas, even if they are rarely used, for the inevitable hurricane as backup when running off a generator and the internet is out.

Those in Lafayette don’t even have the option of getting the games. I even checked League pass and it says the games will be blacked out in Lafayette. So we are absolutely fricked unless we want to give our devices the good old Magic Johnson trying to find illegals streams

Is it, though? You're not growing your fanbase without a 4k cable/satellite option for fans 50 miles away.

I still don’t understand why Bally’s refused to make deals with cable/streamers while going bankrupt. I would be surprised if this new channel doesn’t get cable distribution. The Pels are handling the streaming so it’s not like they just turned everything over to Gray Media.

We have heard they are talking to cable providers and I expect part of the deal that was made included them getting cable distribution. I think it’s a matter of when, not if.

The games won't be in 4K. Only the Lakers and Nuggets home games are broadcast in native 4K. The streaming TNT games are up-converted to 4K (they look good though).

I called the Fox affiliate in Lafayette that carried several Pelicans game last year and they have no plans to carry Pelicans games this year. They are not a Gray affiliate.

not in BR.
The games on 9.3 were not in HD. It was unwatchable.

and 720i isn't a thing. it's 480i, 480p for SD, and then 720p is the lowest HD

I was watching the 9.3 channel on Friday and it was something that was live for high school football and it was in HD, but everything else i've ever seen on that channel is in unwatchable fuzzy SD.

It was a bad joke. I agree with you completely. It made Saints games on Fox 44 look like Imax.
