I see pros and cons to pairing RJ with Zion

On the surface, you see all pros. They love playing with each other, are tight, both are fierce competitors, and still have unfinished business after not winning a title.

But does RJ want to just be a sidekick his whole life? Would RJ and Zion be too click-ish, preventing Zion from really building strong relationships with the other 14 guys? Would it be harder for Jrue to try to lead and mentor two top rookies, as opposed to 1?

All legit questions IMO. And thats before we get to the basketball fit.

What are your thoughts on pairing RJ with Zion?

It feels like a dream scenario in regards to their potential and the joy they’d have at being together in the pros

There’s the other huge part of me that is hoping like hell Memphis falls in love with RJ and Morant slips to 3

I like the team's chances of building with two rookies like Zion + RJ (bonus that they're friends) from the ground up...

I have doubts about them (1) telling Jrue he's the leader of the franchise, (2) getting Zion who has been crowned by ESPN as the best player ever to ever, and (3) trading for Tatum and asking him to just kind slide in and accept a role as #2 /3-ish

If the Knicks would have got #2 is the only way this could have been better.

Morant
Holiday
Knox
Williamson
Robinson

Very young team but would be exciting to watch.

Given the circumstances, my opinion is that things could be a LOT worse than worrying about how two top 3 rookies who already have chemistry on and off the court will fit with the rest of the team.

Get the talent, work on the fit is my opinion.

By your rationale, will Tatum want to play with Zion and Jrue? Tatum would be the #2 in popularity upon arrival behind Zion no?

Get the guys, work on the fit as best you can. We all know that talent is the most important thing in the NBA. Fit /chemistry are #2.

I think you’re probably over thinking it.

My concern is putting shooting around them when we already have a max guard who isn't score first.

Makes the 1 and stretch 4 positions much more meaningful. Tobias Harris or a cheaper Niko slide in nicely at the 4 and provide spacing. Still need a guard that is basically the opposite of Payton/Rondo.

Won't happen. RJ (and Zion for that matter) do not come off as that self centered. I could be wrong but I just don't get that vibe.

Plus there is room for both to be superstars. I mean look at other teams:

Golden State with Durant, Steph and Klay.
Thunder with Westbrook and George.

I'm starting to think that RJ is a better option long term than Ja mostly due to RJ's size. I'm starting to believe that RJ will be more durable through the season which will lead to a higher level of consistency through the season.

Much rather pair Tatum and Brown with Zion. Unless Morant is part of the deal, I am not excited about the Knicks package.

Barrett can get his shot. I think if we want a scorer, hes the guy. Best scorer in the draft.
His shot will get more consistent and he has room to grow as a defender.

Chemistry wise, I think you raise great points but it seems like them being tight is more pro than con. As long as they win, of course.

Also, worth noting, they were not the greatest of fit together at Duke.

And Barrett has a lot of work to do with his game to be a good fit with not just Zion's style of game but Jrue's. They don't really offset any of each other's weaknesses and may sort of magnify some of them in fact.

Spacing would be horrendous, none are particularly good at FT shooting(or in Jrue's case getting to the line) all are best as part-time facilitators or ball handlers, which brings in questions of offensive synergy.

IDK, I'm skeptical of Rj as a prospect generally, even more skeptical as a fit on this roster.....Ideal scenario is Memphis has much more confidence in RJ and Morant slips to three.

I mean, you don't have much of a choice unless you're going to trade the pick for a veteran player. It's a three player draft. Unless Morant somehow falls, you have to take RJ, and this is me speaking as someone who doesn't like RJ.

You make a lot of sense. Heck, De'Andre Hunter may be a better fit for the Pels with Zion. I believe Hunter is going to be a top outside threat in the NBA.

Same.

I'm not really feeling the Zion/RJ combo.

i also feel like Garland over RJ with the 3 pick makes more sense for fit and future of this team.
