The only conversation anyone ever talks about is if/when his contract can be stretched. However, assuming that doesn't happen this year is he even able to contribute at all health wise? Does anyone know how he has recovered from the bacterial infection he got after the All-Star break last season?

How much playing time would he realistically get when at full health? From what I've seen of him, Dell should be fired just for giving up a 1st round pick for him.

The first round pick wasn't as bad because he did help you get to the playoffs. Resigning him to such a long term deal when he didn't fit Gentry or the league was the mistake that should get him fired.

Little bit of legal advice for ya buddy: it's actually not libel because Asik is a public figure and so he would have show a malicious intent/recklessness in order to prevail. Not so sure that's present here, just a little bit of stupidity on the part of our guy, Joe.

A public official cannot recover from a person who publishes a communication about a public official’s conduct or fitness unless the defendant knew that the statement was false or acted in reckless disregard of the statements truth or falsity. This standard is referred to as “actual malice,” although malice in this sense does not mean ill-will. Instead, the actual malice standard refers to the defendant’s knowledge of the truth or falsity of the statement. In this case Asik may not be able to establish actual malice but the post is walking a fine line and has no place in a public forum.

I saw Asik leaving Rouses with a few lady "friends" when I was in NOLA for Radiohead.

He did not have the build of a professional NBA player, and that's putting it mildly.

I'm gonna step out on a limb and say you don't frequent this board. That's about the least "malicious" comment you'll see if you wander through some of the forums

I would just love to be there when the GM asks permission to stretch the remainder of Asik's contract. It is literally just giving money away. How much is it? Like 24M? That's just a monster mistake..

I'm no CBA/cap guru, and I'd love an explanation of what it means to "stretch" a player.

What are the financial impacts?

Does he get more money or is the same amount simply spread out over more years as it applies to the cap?

Or something else entirely?

Paging TigerinATL (or any of the other more knowledgeable posters on this board qualified to answer the quesrion).

You basically cut a player and put the money you owe him on a payment plan. If they cut him now he turns into $3.5 million in dead cap money per year for 7 years instead of the $24 he's owed in the next 3 years.

I believe that the Pels and Asik can agree to a buyout, say $15m and then stretch that payment out over the next 7 years which would equate nothing more than basically a min contract over that period.

What I don't know is if the Pels actually pay that salary or if it's just a dead cap number. He can then go play in Turkey or something if he so chooses.

This. Asik does what Asik is supposed to do. I don't think anyone ever expected him to be a crucial scorer. But he's a damn good rebounder. The ball always seems to land in his hands under the basket. When we beat San Antonio to make the playoffs, Asik was critical in those last few minutes. Does he fit into our long term plans now? No. But he gets far too much hate. Though eating their own is what people on Tigerdroppings do best.
