Look who won the title
That's a little reductive. Since the Spurs won the title, the Pelicans must build through the draft because they did?
No one else is turning the Belinellis, Millses, Bonners, et al into viable pieces like that. Thinking any team can just replicate that is a disservice to the incredible work the Spurs have done, not to mention the luck they have had. Plus in the playoffs even the Spurs are cutting their rotation to 7 or 8 guys.

Jackson/Lamb/Adams/Jones III isn't a bad start.
By the WCF, Jackson was starting and Lamb/Jones weren't playing. Derek Fisher was their 6th man. That is the antithesis of a good bench. Though Adams is already on my "Guys I Hate Because They Aren't on My Favorite Team Team."
quote:
Collison(last year)Crawford/Redick/Dudley/Davis
That ain't mediocre.
Redick was the starter until injury derailed him. Crawford is good as microwave. But the rest is putrid. Collison had a couple nice games in the playoffs. He isn't good. Dudley was out of the rotation by the playoffs and Davis was awful when he came in.
Houston, if they get Bosh, will be very, very good. Morey has done just as good a job as Demps at turning lightly regarded players into useable pieces to support their core guys.

Did the Walrus insist on bringing him in?

I bet that 2nd year is a player option

1) if everyone could team-build like the spurs they'd be doing it
That's true
It's interesting to see how teams are somewhat mimicing that.
quote:
2) adams & jackson can play, lamb & jones3 did nothing. shite they had derek fisher playing crunch time minutes
Scott Brooks(who i'm no fan of) has some obessession with playing him.
Lamb/Jones have obvious talent. It's the brooks thing again imo. They do need a decent depth piece though I agree.
quote:
3) clips were desperate for any live body to sub in for griffin/jordan, and had nothing. davis is a minus at both ends and dudley did nothing of note
Probably why they signed hawes.
Davis is meh but there's worse. Dudley is still a 3 point threat and they're very good at getting guys open.
quote:
4) denver has been the league's deepest team (on paper) outside of the spurs for a while now. you would think that if anyone could survive injuries it would be them, but they didnt. they need a star and i guarantee you they'd trade depth for a stud right now and live with a thinner bench
That's also probably why you here love mentioned with them every now and then.
Their idea makes sense at face value of being a team full of jack-of-all trades and not one superstar. Teams have been successful with that ideal but they(the nuggets) just couldn't get over the hump due to various issues(the west/injuries/etc).

Ya'll are freaking out about a 30 year old who changed his game to a more perimeter oriented approach in Miami
I wouldn't say I'm freaking out
I was more commenting from a on the court standpoint, just think Bosh is great fit next to Dwight Howard.
Is the contract too big? Probably so. But if he goes to Houston, the Rockets just got a lot better. Title contenders? I don't know, but definitely better.

wtf is going on with the Asik trade?
Posted on 7/7/14 at 4:13 pm to rondo
Likely involves a third team and some free agents, otherwise it would have been complete by now.

Continue to hear OKC is ahead of Miami in Anthony Morrow chase. Along with Pau Gasol, Morrow has been a prime Thunder target in free agency
It would take our MLE, but at this point a S&T of Morrow to OKC for their trade exception seems to be the least destructive way of creating cap space for Asik.

If this scenario happened, how much more space would be needed to take on Asik?

No guarantees made, but Danny Granger/Josh McRoberts committed to Heat w/ strong belief LeBron James will be a teammate, sources tell Yahoo.
Hope so. Don't want Bosh to Houston.

tax line is $77MM
rox will have plenty of room above the cap to re-sign parsons, and as above, have indicated they'll pay the tax for a couple years if necessary
If someone offers Parsons $12M and they match, while signing Bosh @ $24M, that puts them over $72M. If they fill out their roster with 8 minimum guys with only 1 year in the league, they are already at $78.7M.
If you assume they keep Jones, Motiejunas, Casspi, and Beverly, they are at $80,477,332. However, if they keep all those guys, they have no room for a $24M free agent, so they'll have to send someone out in a S&T or hope nobody signs an offer with Parsons before they can sign Bosh.
I'm really not sure how they could bring in Bosh without losing a few key pieces that come cheap. It will take a lot of outgoing salary to go over the cap signing $24M.

So they need to flip Lin somewhere for nothing?

Bosh's first year cap hit would be 20mil, as I understand it.
The 4 year 96 mil deal was based off of the max offered based upon 35% of the cap, but the real max is based off of a percentage of Basketball Related Income, which for Bosh would be 4 years and 88mil. Starting salary at 20.7mil.

They've already got a deal with the 76ers lined up for Lin. Wouldn't be shocked if our pick going to Philly was involved.

They need to do more than that. They may need to create a behemoth sign-and-trade for Bosh with Lin and Asik heading out. The problem is that we'd also need a taker for salary, so I just don't see that happening.

Still means they'll need to send out about $13M.
