In case anyone was interested, Nate Duncan and Danny Leroux on the Pels signings:
LINK
starts around 53:30
really likes both of the signings. Didn't think either was an overpay (though thought Moore would only get 3 years). Likes that we shouldn't have any defensive weak links and that we'll be able to switch really well on defense. Thinks Hill is more of a 4. Likes that they don't have an injury history. Says we did about as well as reasonably expected.
Leroux agrees. Thinks both deserve an expanded role. Rags on Indy for not picking up his option ("Low upside, high downside move"). Says that kind of thing probably won't happen anymore with the cap going up.
Duncan says we need a backup PG. Says Frazier is a sleeper FA and thinks we don't have a great shot at keeping him. Says Frazier should be as good as Ish and Bayless.
High praise for a duo that demolished us for picking Hield.
Also, towards the end of the podcast (1:35:00), Duncan lists the Pels as one of the winners of FA (along with about 5 other teams, including Brooklyn and Utah).

Their bench is still an issue but I guess they can sign a bunch of vet min deals to round out the roster right?
People said the same thing about the Heat. They managed to do just fine attracting cheap contracts.

Duncan and Leroux on day 2 of FA:
LINK
Talk about Houston at 36:00. They think Ryno is one of the worst contracts of FA. Duncan was skeptical that Ryno would get $20m/yr. Predicted a Pels one-season overpay of 1/$18m. Don't like Gordon's contract either, but think that the injury issues are overblown since his recent injuries aren't the lingering type. They have no idea how Gordon and Harden can be on the court at the same time. Think it was a very anti-Morey offseason as they typically avoid bad contracts. Duncan says that no one wants to play with Harden and that the franchise is a hot mess. They spend ~13:00 ragging on the signings and the Rockets in general.

Wouldn't mind

If we go into the season with Diallo as our backup 4, I'd say we aren't really trying to win this year, which I'm ok with.

Going back to the idea of stretching Tyreke...
What if we...
Stretched Tyreke
Traded Ajinca to the Nets into cap space bc well Ajinca > Hamilton for them as a back up 5
Waive Babbitt and Douglas
Signed Sullinger 6m/year for 3
Signed speights to 4m/year for 2
Signed Frazier 4m/yr for 3
Diallo and Inglis to RLE
Signed Lawson to vet min deal
Holiday/Frazier/Lawson
Hield/Moore
Hill/Pondexter/Cunningham/Inglis
Davis/Sullinger/Diallo
Asik/Speights
May be off on my salary cap figures here and I'm sure I'm undervaluing a contract or two but I would like this team

I think they'll all cost more.

Room level can only be 2 year max. We frick ourselves over if Diallo ends up being good.

No. There is no reason to force things yet. I like Frazier and hope we can bring him back, but there are other PGs available. Why can't Larry Drew II be another Frazier and Ish? He's a pass first PG and we saw 2 minimum pass first PGs make the offense work well enough. If Demps has excelled at anything it's find the low end guys that fit a roster hole well enough to excel.

Yeah, sign Diallo into cap space and hope you can get Frazier with the RLE. End up with full Bird Rights on both when their contracts are up.

Is that the former LSU one?

I agree with this. There was nothing special about Ish or Frazier. We didn't strike gold. Give some pass first pg's real minutes in Gentry's system with AD and they are going to look great.

I like Frazier, but I think some big you forget he was a terrible defender. He's not special, and we've shown we can find another D-league guy contribute.
If Reke is healthy, he will be the backup PG probably, so it's not like we have to have a backup we expect to play, or pay much for. He won't really play until Jrue and/or Reke inevitably get hurt.

Jesus, talk about falling off a cliff. It hasn't been long at all since he was considered a max guy.

I agree with you my problem is if what MM is saying is true and Tyreke might not play until January then we do need a proven backup pg

The Hornets are looking to give Spencer Hawes away so they can sign Hibbert.
$6M/year, 2 years left.
I have no idea what kind of space we have left, or how we could make that happen. Would be nice if someone started a thread outlining our salary cap information instead of asking, "should we tank" or "Official #2".
I'd rather get an athletic defensive guy as opposed to Hawes. I think we have enough shooters now at the guard positions, and Ajinca is good enough offensively with the second unit. Backup 4 needs to be a bruiser and a really good rebounder, much like what Tristan Thompson has turned himself into.

Mason posted an updated salary chart on BSS. LINK If you cut Babbitt and Douglas you can get up to almost $5 million in cap space plus the $2.9 million cap room exception. The problem with that is we might need most of that $5 million to resign Frazier. I don't see anything much more significant than resigning Frazier happening without a trade. At this point you probably play the waiting game and take the cheapest of your preferred options LINK
If we're lucky we can add a rebounding big we like and keep Frazier, maybe resign Douglas and Babbitt for the minimum. But do you risk cutting Babbitt after losing Ryno? Douglas also would seem to be a better fit with Gentry than many of the other veteran guards outside of Felton.

I think it is stupid to sign Frazier to $5M
I'd rather that money going to a backup 4, and going find another backup pg elsewhere for bare minimum, like we've done the last 3 years.
and thanks for the links.
