They're $8.9 million away from the tax right now. Who they trade for Lin will be important. Trade Asik and QPon for Lin and you get $2 million more in breathing room. Trade Ajinca and QPon for Lin and you're about $5.7 away from the tax meaning you probably have to choose between one of Miles or Cunningham if you aren't stretching Asik or willing to pay the tax this year.
ETA: That's probably part of why they wouldn't commit to Justin Holiday. They may be in a position where they have to choose between a wing and a big. If you don't bring back Cunningham and you trade Ajinca, the bigs on your roster are AD/DC/Asik/Diallo.

I doubt we'll go into the tax...Kushner and Madison have both said that the only way the franchise will go into the tax THIS year is if we're a championship team which clearly we are not

i was so hard for swaggy at the trade deadline last year. If we got him here last year, we probably would have kept him here. D Cous would have threatened him and shite.

I'm fully convinced the team will make the playoffs, AD/DC will resign and Demps will keep his job for the next several years. And if you look at the net results that's probably ok, but if you look at the process and all the little mistakes where he boxed himself in, it doesn't give you a lot of confidence going forward that he's the guy to maximize this team.
