Luke Babbitt
At the risk of sounding like Fletcher, I wouldn't mind Babbitt back on a minimum deal, if Dante doesn't re-sign. He would get such open looks playing as a stretch 4 next to Boogie or AD, that he can cut the pump fake out of his repertoire completely.
I would still much rather Dante, as he is a better option on switching on defense.

I know what Tiger is saying in other thread, but stretching Asik now allows us re-sign Dante and maybe we can then try to sign someone like Ian Clark for a little more than minimum with the MLE and then bring a Gerald Green or Gerald Henderson and someone like McAdoo or Zeller for min contracts...
Sure it sucks we have to flip $3.6m to Asik for the next 7 years but we'll probably be a cap team that whole time anyway assuming Boogie and AD re-up. If they don't then you're going to be under the cap regardless so $3.6m in the grand scheme means is a drop in the bucket.
Rondo / Clark / Jackson
Holiday / Moore / Crawford
Hill / Green or Henderson / Miller
Davis / Cunningham / Diallo
Cousins / Ajinca / Zeller
I like that team. Deep and can switch and have enough shooting to keep teams honest (Clark, Green, Holiday, Cunningham and Hill possibly, Miller).
Plus, enough bigs to give AD and Boogie and little rest when needed or are in foul trouble and not blow leads and can play different looks.

Not only a cap team, but if it works out a repeater tax team. Fast forward 5 years and you can't even add a low priced Derrick Rose like the Cavs are looking at because Asik's stretch is costing you $15 million a year. The teams paying the tax have been losing money, I know Benson will pay some tax if they are contending, but how much tax? If there is a limit, and there probably is, I'd rather not have the ghost of Asik keeping them from adding a guy that could put them over the top.

Right and odds are he won't. Why would he? He's going to get stretched regardless probably. If you were to be told hey you have the choice of being paid $3.6m or $2.8m over the next 7yrs you're going to take more especially if you have zero incentive to take less

But what if he were told "I just spoke to my boss and $18 million is the best I can do. If you take it you can leave now, if not you'll probably get to play in about 10 games next season."

Fair point but if Tom can be talked into $126m for Jrue I believe he can be talked into buying out Asik at $25m. Not the same I know, but they have dead money on the Saints all the time.

As usual, Asik's agent has all the leverage. He knows Asik isn't getting paid anywhere else. He also knows the Pels have to stretch Asik either this summer or next.
If you know that you're a dinosaur and your earning power has tanked would you give up $5M, $3M, or even $1M to be released at most a year early? He has all the power.

Him and mozgov are two guys who are dinosaurs in today's era. They got paid and they're going to take the money and run.

I was so triggered when we gave Asik that contract, but even I didn't think it would come back to haunt us as much as it has.

Brooklyn Nets have waived guard Archie Goodwin.
And no, we shouldn't.

I still think the Nets are the best place to trade Asik...because they can stretch him and still go out and get a Kris Humphries or James Michael McAdoo to fill out their big rotation AND they'd get out Lin's contract. I really think that's a win on both sides.

Can cross Jennings off the board...he's playing in China according to Spears

The Nets don't want out of Lin's contract. They like him. They aren't going to take on Asik (especially with Mozgov on the books) and give up Lin unless we give them something crazy like three 1sts + cash.
No one is taking on Asik's salary and stretching him on the cheap. We need to suck it up and take our medicine. We will have to stretch him or keep him on the roster and try again next year when the amount/time is less taxing.

Decreased buyout and make him CEO of Dixie Beer

Nets have Crabbe, Russell, LeVert, and Dinwiddie (who let them in APG last yr) at guard...why keep Lin...you're not winning anything this year...sure they like him...maybe we throw in a first for their liking
$12m is a lot to pay for a backup.

and what do you think he's going to do here?
a first round pick and 1 year of a $12M backup is a lot to pay if you ask me.
I"m not giving up a pick to get Lin, and i'm not giving up a pick to get rid of Asik. it's just stupid and a waste of an asset. At some point you have to just accept your stupidity and stop compounding it. You can't make a stupid decision to make your previous stupid decision go away.
