All great points Teddy. I go back to Hill's 2 best games last year. First against Memphis and a month later against Houston. Both games he was aggressive, moved well without the ball, and got to the line. This will be all more important with Rondo running the point.

So looking at the roster
PG: Rondo, (Jrue), Cook
SG: Jrue, Moore, Crawford, Miller
SF: Hill, Ghost of Qpon
PF: AD, Cunningham, Cheick
C: Cousins, AA, Asik
I am not counting Toupane as I think he is either a 2-way or gone. We will shed salary in some form (AA, Qpon, Asik) in order to re-sign DC and then add another player. Pickings are getting really slim on the free agent front though one stands out.
If we have access to at least part of MLE (Asik buyout/stretch) then available guys could be:
Ian Clark
Aaron Afflalo
Michael Beasley
Jamychael GReen
If we can only add a minimum guy:
Luke Babbit
Mike Dunleavy Jr.
Tylker Zeller (might take 2 yr w/ PO, if we dump AA Asik)
Jan Vesely (connected to him last year)
Ian Clark is the best fit left considering familiarity with Gentry system, shooting, offball movement, and upside. We would be pretty thin at people who can legitimately guard the 3 and would be playing a lot of 3 guard lineups, but he provides the most upside.
If what someone else said about Tanner meeting with the Turkish teams is true, the most logical play and best case scenario is to stretch Asik, sign Clark to part of MLE 2 year with PO, then re-sign Cunningham while staying under the tax. You add talent and get rid of dead weight without giving up your assets. It costs Benson a bunch of money this year, but if we don't win and retain Cousins, then he will lose a lot more.

You're misplacing Darius Miller. He would definitely be a backup SF. He's always been listed as a SF to my knowledge and he is 6'8".
In order to sign anyone else we will need to move contracts, and that doesn't look promising right now.

Everything I read about him in Europe is that he guards 2's. Seems to be a 2/3, but regardless he can defender the smaller wings and Dante can defend the bigger ones.

We could buyout/stretch Asik and try to dump Anjica with cash & 2nd's, if not same with Q-Pon (or just have less space). I believe we would then have enough room to sign Cuningham, use large enough part of MLE, and then get a minimum backup big (Zeller would be ideal, but probably gets more than minimum).

I think Miller would be a SF in the same way QPon and Bazemore are. You don't want them guarding bigger SFs like LeBron, but they can be passable on most nights, especially in a bench role.
I really think Afflalo is the player to target because he can give you some SF minutes and you are thin there unless Miller works out. To me the main benefit of Ian Clark is that if he can live up to his potential as a 2 way combo guard then he makes Moore easier to stomach trading. That wouldn't be a bad thing and I'd be happy signing Clark, I just like the SF depth Afflalo gives you better.

If you don't worry about the hard cap and just the tax, stretching Asik and cutting Toupane should be the only moves you need. That gives you $9.6 million to work with before you get into the tax. Sign Afflalo and Cunningham for $4-$5 each and you're done. If you want to upgrade Ajinca with a minimum guy like Zeller then you'd need to either dump Ajinca or Pondexter or get lower pricing on Afflalo/Cunningham. You can replace Afflalo with Clark if you like, the money you have to work with is probably the same either way.

You don't have any of the rookies on there. Are you assuming Jackson, Jok, and Jones all end up in the G-league?
Posted on 7/20/17 at 12:12 pm to PTinBR
Jackson will probably spend most of his time in the GLeague this year like Diallo did last year. Jok and Jones are not guaranteed to make the team, although I wouldn't be surprised if either or both got a 2 way contract.
Posted on 7/20/17 at 12:23 pm to TigerinATL
Realistically I expect FJ to be in the G league, he's just not ready.
But when I put on my Pelitard cap, I leave room for the possibility of seeing him in the rotation lol

I'm hoping (against all solid logic) that either/both of FJ or Jok could make it on the end of the bench as a pure shooter. Unapologetically wearing my Pelitard cap for that one.

Rookies just can't cut it on defense. If they play much this year there's at least an 80% chance it's a bad thing and not a good thing.

I just forgot to put up Jackson, he makes 15. I don't think he will get much playing time with the team and will spend most of the year in the G league like Cheick.
Toupane, Jones, Jok, and Jaleel Cousins should be 2-way options. This season is too important to be relying on a rookie for any meaningful play especially with Cheick and Cook expected to at least get some minutes. I don't want to be relying on either of them for real minutes at this point, much less a rookie.

Ideal for me would be stretch Asik (he gives $3M in buyout) and dump Anjiica with $/2nd. Sign Ian Clark to 1/$6M w/ PO and DC to 2/$10M, then grab Zeller at minimum.
No clue though what an AA dump would cost, what Clark ends up taking or what Zeller will get in this market.

Cap Guru's, is this legit? If so, why haven't we done it yet?

Because it sounds like the team is trying to get Asik to agree to a discounted buyout amount so there is less salary to stretch. They currently owe him $25 million in the next 3 years and would prefer to pay him $18ish. Getting paid to play elsewhere instead of rotting on the Pels bench is the incentive for Asik to take a reduced amount. It's unclear whether the hold up is Demps isn't authorized to stretch Asik at his full amount or if this is simply a game of Chicken that will end on August 31st, the deadline for stretching Asik this season.

Derrick Rose and the Cleveland Cavaliers are in serious talks on a one-year deal. The Cavaliers can offer the veteran's minimum to Rose and they also have a portion of the taxpayer midlevel exception.
Rose's market in free agency has been more tepid than he expected. Rose has also met with the Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Clippers.
As recently as January, Rose was telling friends he was expecting a five-year max contract from the New York Knicks.
Rose is coming off a five-year, $94 million contract extension signed in 2011 with the Chicago Bulls. Rose is also meeting with the Los Angeles Lakers about a potential deal.
yeesh...

Everyone thought he was insane when that came out. He probably fricked himself earlier in free agency with wholly unrealistic contract expectations.
