Hasheem Thabeet comes to mind, as Memphis desperately wanted a center and passed on guys like Harden and Tyreke Evans to do so.

Form 2009 Pre Draft - NBA Comparison: Dikembe Mutombo. Still relatively inexperienced ... Improved by leaps and bounds since enrolling at UConn in 2006. Between his height, athleticism and soft touch, Thabeet has as much upside as any prospect in this draft. Might not make an immediate impact on the offensive end, but Thabeet has the potential to be an All-Star down the road

Ranked 5 on the consensus big board, so even if Mem doesn't take him at 2 he probably still goes top 5

Teams are vetting this guy much more than the typical Pels talk scout who is watching YouTube highlights and looking at mock draft.

It's like people here don't understand. The scouts/teams don't follow the mocks, the mocks follow the teams.

Garland's "rise" is due to nba/mock draft media getting information from teams, not the other way around. Mock drafts/Media don't create interest/value in players by NBA teams, they just find out about that interest and report it.

They get much more information (actual and deceptive) closer to the draft. That's why you see guys jump up every year.

This is something I've said for years about the NFL. A player doesn't "shoot up draft boards"...the amateur draftniks catch up to what the teams already know.

Oh yeah, its much worse in the NFL. At least with basketball these kids are tracked from AAU and play against each other, so there is kind of an initial list based off that. With football early mocks are total shite.

Private workouts are pretty important for a guy coming off a knee. You’re ensuring he retained he’s athleticism post injury, running him through different drills. These guys have been watching him for years, it means something to them

And all they've seen him do is play against much much much inferior competition to what he'll see in the NBA, so most of what they saw means absolutely nothing.

Like i said, if we didn't get to see Nassir Little and Cam Reddish play a full year of college basketball, they'd be talked about being the 2nd or 3rd pick in the draft.

Doesn’t make some of the choices any less inexplicable.

Shawn Bradley going at 2 with Mashburn, Penny, and others still on the board is one of those historical WTFs.

What will the Cavs offer to flip spots?

I don’t think a late 20s first from Houston pulls it off.

The pressure of draft day trades and having to decide within minutes, seems huge to me

god i hope we dont' trade for kevin fricking love.
Of all the trades that have been discussed, that is the one that makes me want to just keep the pick. I'm totally down with trading the pick in any other circumstance, and i'm looking forward to it.

Most of these trades have been felt out over the course of days or weeks.

They just execute if the right players are available at that slot.

@JakeLFischer

There’s an ongoing flurry of trade discussion regarding picks 20-23, league sources say, with teams like Golden State, Brooklyn, Sacramento, Dallas and San Antonio expressing interest to move up into that range

Kyler says he heard possibly 16 picks moved tonight

Read that the Warriors bought the Atlanta pick with Alen Smailagic in mind.

Spurs like Goga, but would have to trade up to get him. Will be interesting to see if they can move up.

Same as every single player ever drafted.

You mean the opposite of just about every player drafted.

Zion went from maybe top 5 pick to best prospect since Lebron, just from playing college basketball for a year, surpassing his two higher touted teammates.
There's a huge difference between playing in high school and AAU, and playing in the ACC.
