I remember there were magazines coming out asking if Rivers would be better than Lebron. :haha:

Pels up to -250 on betonline to trade the pick
Posted on 6/20/19 at 12:50 pm to jprdbulldog20
The most shocking thing that could happen tonight is the Pels NOT trading the pick.
Posted on 6/20/19 at 12:53 pm to teke184
No I think it’d be Ja or RJ falling to us at 4
Posted on 6/20/19 at 12:58 pm to Large Farva
If Ja or RJ fall to #4, you take one of them.
Still unsure why we are so dead set on trading this pick anyway.

so ATL just gets #4 without giving anything up of real value?
Posted on 6/20/19 at 12:59 pm to dcrews
I believe that’s the reason we haven’t traded the pick yet. Wait to see who is available.

which is a not a great comparison. one played 4 years in college in Dame and the other played 5 games in college in Darius Garland . I can see the comp in their games but the body of work is very different
lets take a step back. on November 27th it was announced that Darius Garland would miss the rest of the college basketball season. lets look at 3 mock drafts/player rankings I found from June 2018-November 27, 2018
1) Zion / RJ / RJ
2) Reddish / Zion / Reddish
3) RJ / Little / Little
4) Little / Grimes / Sekou
5) Bol Bol / Reddish / Zion
6) Kevin Porter Jr / Langford / Langford
7) Romeo Langford / Sekou / Grimes
8) Quentin Grimes / Garland / Gafford
9) Hunter / Hunter / Hachimura
10) Sekou / Jaylen Hoard(?) / Luka Samanic
11) Culver / Keldon Johnson / Charles Bassey
12) Keldon Johnson / Hachimura / Hunter
13) Morant / Herbert Jones(?) / Garland
14) Tre Jones / Morant / Louis King
15) Daniel Gafford / Gafford / Jontay Porter
16) Jalen McDaniels / Bol Bol / Keldon Johnson
17) Hachimura / Kevin Porter Jr / Bruno Fernando
18) Garland / Culver / Kevin Porter Jr
I don't see Coby White, Jaxson Hayes, PJ Washington, Goga, or Brandon Clarke in any of those mocks. And Culver was @20 & I didn't even see Ja Morant in the last one. Zion wasn't even the consensus #1
We also don't see Kevin Porter Jr, Quentin Grimes, Keldon Johnson, Tre Jones, Jalen McDaniels, Charles Bassey, or Bruno Fernando in the lottery now. Nassir Little is barely a lottery pick
point I'm trying to make is that a LOT happens to change team & public perception from December-April of the college basketball season. those high on Garland I understand he has a good skillset, but no matter how you cut it, he is still a gamble

Ja at #4---we in this biotch...

So the perception of other guys is allowed to change but garlands outlook can’t because he didn’t play the full season? Ok
Teams are vetting this guy much more than the typical Pels talk scout who is watching YouTube highlights and looking at mock draft.
Every player is a gamble outside of Zion. Garland’s bust rate isn’t any higher than Morant or culver or hunter. Get real

How do we know what “teams” are doing? I’m pretty sure the Hawks are trying to trade up for Reddish or Hunter. And the teams that need a Pg like the Suns and Bulls are not mentioned.
A lot of this Garland talk is fabricated. Not that he isn’t in the running for the pick, as he has always been. But the hype is interesting.
For those that don’t know his back ground, Garland was a spot up shooter. He sort of became a Pg because of his size but has a long way to go there. And he’s virtually identical in size to Steph Curry, which is to say he’s very small.
He virtually has to become a lights out offensive beast to become a major player. He does not project to be a great distributor, and certainly projects to be an extremely poor defender. CJ McCollum is a much better player comparison as a ceiling.

Are they making him play 5 on 5 against other elite prospects, or NBA players?
How the hell are they "vetting" him out more?
talking to him to see what kind of person he is? well he signed Rich Paul so there's that.
Making him do a private workout with no legit defense? Hey i can make a bunch of shots with no one on me too.
There's nothing they can do to vet him more. All they have is highschool and 4 crappy college games to see what he actual does in a competition, and that ain't much.

I just did a little bit of research on top 5 picks since 2000. I broke them up into 3 categories:
Stud: Multiple all star games/all nba teams
Average: Solid role player, maybe an outlier all star game
Dud: Total bust
My results show that 35% of top 5 picks are studs, 35% of top 5 picks are average, and 30% of top 5 picks are duds.
The only draft since 2000 with zero busts was 2005, so count on at least one of these guys being a dud.
Also of note, the only draft without a single stud was 2000, so count on one of these guys being a star.
After conducting my research, I want as many top 5 picks as possible to increase the odds of landing a stud.

The NBA draft has such a high bust rate. Most of the guys picked in the first round will be bums.
I trust Griffin to make the right call here.

And how many of those players were in the top 5 because someone wanted to reach for that position?
Hasheem Thabeet comes to mind, as Memphis desperately wanted a center and passed on guys like Harden and Tyreke Evans to do so.

I'm not sure I have time to run the whole first round for every draft since 2000, but I assure you the bust rate increases drastically outside of the top 5 - i.e. I just don't think it's smart to give away such a valuable asset.

They’ve been scouting him since HS. Camps, Team USA. You’re doing your ole look at b-ball reference scouting.
Private workouts are pretty important for a guy coming off a knee. You’re ensuring he retained he’s athleticism post injury, running him through different drills. These guys have been watching him for years, it means something to them
