Yep. Big money being offered that goes beyond basketball.

No taxes to be paid if Drake's involved--changes the complexion a good bit...

Just that Lakers, Clippers, and Raptors are all making proposals based on endorsement and other income.
Yesterday, I was thinking this decision was about where Kawhi wanted to play basketball. Today, I think it's about how much money he can make.
[Edit] I posted earlier about how Lakers Reddit is bragging about their proposal to Kawhi was all about how much more he can make in endorsements through the promotional agency connected to the Lakers, and how LeBron, AD, and he would be able to do endorsements as a trio.

Yep.
Funny thing is that this is exactly what happens when there are caps on certain kinds of compensation in other industries.
Know why health care is tied to employment? Because it started to be offered as a benefit to employees at a time when there were absolute wage caps on what employees could be paid, as it was one form of compensation that was not regulated by the government at that moment.

That and the largest tax subsidy in the tax code that allows the purchase of insurance using pre-tax income, extending the purchasing power of employees and saving the employer on employment taxes, a benefit only useable if a company offers health insurance through it... but the point is absolutely a valid one.

Drake is going to get Cargojet to give Kawhi a 767 too.

I’m talking about the original intent.
In the days immediately following WWII, there were still strictly salary controls in place.
Businesses looking to get talent had to find ways to convince people to go with them and medical coverage was something they came up with which wasn’t regulated at that time.

Danny Green is apparently tired of Kawhi taking his time and is meeting with his agent tonight to start talking deals.
He is expected to get a good offer from Dallas but there are other potential landing spots as well.

That's about right. And lots of other stuff from Canadian companies. And why not? What was the value to Canada of Toronto's championship? How much more valuable is the NBA's Canadian TV contract? One guess:
quote:
Marvin Ryder from the Degroote School of Business says that 75% of the economic impact of the Raptors playoff run has already been felt.
“The economic impact of this victory I would measure in the tens of millions of dollars, possibly up to 100 million but that’s over the next couple of years.”
