Sort of.
It’s effectively a placeholder saying “I’m here until I reach 10 years in the league and get a better scale of contract” in this case.
If he were at 10 years, it would be effectively holding the franchise hostage, demanding that they cater to you each offseason lest you walk and they get squat. Like LeBron did to Cleveland last time around leaving them devoid of young talent and in cap hell.
