Reporter types are speculating that Trajan will quickly try to go after Borrego, and that Cleveland will work to secure Borrego TODAY.

All these teams hot for Borrego should tell Griffin something, but it doesn't seem like it is.

JB already failed trying to coach a young team, I really don’t see why he would make sense on another young team. JB would have to be more of a vet team type coach. Plus by all accounts also Griff was the one forcing the JB hire, Trajan always loved Willie. It really just makes to much sense for Willie to Detroit and JB take over Pels

What? No he didn’t. Charlotte improved in each of his last two seasons. They signed him to a multi year extension, they finish 43-39 and then a horrible franchise goes horrible franchise and fired him. It was somehow his fault for how Lamelo and Miles Bridges behave. Since he left, things have gone completely off the rails and Charlotte has been arguably the worst franchise.

Ignoring all of that, anyone who knows basketball can see that the guy knows basketball. His sets are very innovative, though unfortunately falling on deaf ears here. He’s going to do well somewhere.

I think Griffin would fire Willie if he had the leeway to. I just think with signing him to an extension and him being his third coach- hes stuck with him. Griffin giving him an extension last year was a terrible decision.

Add Monty to the Lakers and the Lakers to the lottery, and it's the perfect dream.

Atkinson would make a lot of sense for them. He seemed to work well with younger players.

The Monty Williams timeline... May 2023: Fired by the Phoenix Suns, securing a $20 million-plus buyout. June 2024: Fired by the Detroit Pistons after just one season, securing a $65 million-plus buyout.

I’m not sure if you mean that in a good way or bad. I see Zion and BI as better players and the rest of the roster as being astronomically better. JB’s last season were Lamelo’s and Bridges bests.

And our record was better than Charlotte's too.

I remember when our female owner and black gm fired Monty and we were called racist nationally. Good times

Crazy to think he made less than 8 mil his entire NBA playing career. And probably made 100 mil coaching.

Just so we are on same page and in same convo. You believe Jb failed in his coaching of a young team in Charlotte?

I mean it in a good way. Yes Zion played more games so we won, but Willie's first season doesn't get as much credit as it should considering he made the playoffs with no Zion and year one jose/naji/etc. Ingram also being out and not having cj until the trade deadline.

Then we win 49 games last year, and Willie has his warts, but Zion was the main reason we didn't win more.

And I get that the prevailing thought is that willie isn't a great coach and makes too many mistakes, but he also made a lot of good decisions like starting herb, using Jose more, going more point zion when he got in shape, etc.

I say all that to say that the grass isn't always greener. We fire willie or he gets poached, who is willing to come here that will be better than him?

You mean not coaching.
he should just retire and spend time with his kids from here on out. That’s what I’d do.

All very fair. And like all things in life, nothing is ever black and white. My opinion is there is a massive gap as a tactician between Borrego and Willie. You see it shine particularly at the end of games and in bound plays. Some of the spots where a coach can have the biggest impact. And for a supposed players coach, I do not think Willie has the ear of Zion and BI and seems to have butted heads with the Jonas’, and Jose’s of the world. If people inside the NBA voted on the leagues top coaches, I have to imagine Willie finishes in the bottom five.

I never remember this happening lol. Tom Benson was our owner when Monty was fired and I don’t remember anyone saying we were racist. They just said Monty didn’t deserve to get fired- which at the time wasn’t a bad argument.
