I really liked NAW in summer league. Wish I could see him in practice. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he did have a big rookie season.

There's an hour-long footage of saturday night's open practice on the Pelicans youtube channel. NAWlins looked just like he did in summer league.

Or you can wait it out until Monday night and watch him & the rest of the team in their first preseason game on espn.

The best part of his performance might have been the singing. Most of the other rookies were self conscious and struggling to get through it. NAW looked like one of the vets having fun with a silly activity to entertain the fans, not one of the rookies being hazed. That maturity and poise is what will let him crack the rotation this year.

NAW is an Alpha, and will be a big part of the present and future success of the Pels. After watching him a bit last year, then summer, its clear that his skill set and mentality has him so far ahead of players his own age, he can get his own shot, get to the rim, distribute from anywhere, and his defense will get him pt early. My favorite summer league play was him just sending Colby White back to high school in 1on1 play

I agree it will be impossible to keep him off the floor, early and often.
It’s going to create a minutes crunch for others but so be it

People are saying that he's consistently hitting 3s at a high rate in practice. If that translates to game action, he's going to get a lot of minutes.

I mean, it’s not like his rookie teammate is slacking so far.

I’ll say this again, when all is said and done, getting Zion and Naw is like drafting lebron and wade in the same draft.

NAW was a steal. In hindsight I would go on record as saying he was worth the no.4 pick. Hayes to me right now is lagniappe.

We still got Silva and more out of that trade

Griffin is more than I ever thought NOLA front office BBall was capable of

I agree with Dogstar, Zion and NAW was incredible gets in one draft and i really like Hayes game and energy, i think when its all said and done this will go down as one of the greatest draft a team could have.

Pels in: Hayes, NAW, Didi, Derrick Favors cap space
Pels out: DeAndre Hunter, Solomon Hill

NEVER FORGET!

Found this article from the NY times breaking down every first round pick. This is what they said about NAW.

quote:

A high school teammate of his cousin, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Alexander-Walker is the type of player whose contributions do not always show up on the stat sheet. At 6-foot-6 and athletically built, he’s shown he can defend guards and small forwards, and while he’s not a worldbeater on offense, he’s a good enough catch-and-shoot player from distance that he can contribute. He struggles to create his own shot, and isn’t creative getting to the rim, leaving his ability to score with any regularity in doubt.

This is literally the opposite of what we have seen. Just thought it funny that someone could be so wrong.

Yeah, scouting is obviously an inexact science. I'm glad that we now have a front office that is better at it than anyone else.

NAW will be fine, but we may need to tap the brakes a little.
