I don’t believe that Garland was ever on their radar. They were very specific in the type of player they went after. Garland doesn’t fit the bill.

There is clearly no way to prove it, but I doubt Garland would have been a top 10 pick had he played the entire season. People want to prep-to-pros back, but it's undeniable how much a single season of college competition affects the rankings of these guys. They finally have to go against guys who have the physical ability to impact their games.

Garland was saved from that. I may be wrong, but I was never comfortable with picking him at 4. Nobody really jumped out at 4. This was a great year to pull off that trade.

The trade should be measured against garland in my opinion, as that’s who we would have probably picked. I’m a huge garland fan but now it’s looking like we may come out ahead. Still too much time to know at this point though.

And that Cleveland pick will really be two second rounders.

I'll admit I wanted Garland initially but the fact that he wasn't selected #4 was a little eye opening to me.

It’s pretty shocking how much of a natural passer NAW is. There was an interview on Pelicans.com where a guy who watched NAW his entire career in college and didn’t believe that he could play PG in the league even in spurts.

This is a league of positional versatility these days. The motion offenses have made the CP3/Stockton type floor general a thing of the past (for now). Analytics and tracking have made it extremely obvious how much energy the ball has on it's own. Why adjust movement based on a guy dribbling the ball around when the ball moves so much better on his own?

Atlanta was never going to take him 4 with Trae on the roster. Not unless he was some surefire star(which, while I think higher of him than most, you can see why a team like Atlanta would find different positional value).

That happens when they put you playing the 4 at 6'5

He didnt look as good as his rookie year because he was literally out of position

That would be like Jrue trying to guard AD

Yeah, I get that with Atlanta. I guess I just expected someone to value the 4th pick higher than Atlanta did but I suppose the assets they offered made the most sense for us regardless.

I also don't think Garland is an ideal fit for Cleveland but they obviously felt like value outweighed need.

I feel confident he will be better than Hunter. And I’d take Hayes, NAW, and even Silva before taking Reddish.

As a prospect who would you prefer between the two?

And not to mention getting rid of Solomon Hill's contract.

We gave:
4th overall pick (De'Andre Hunter) to Atlanta + Solomon Hill
We got:
Jaxson Hayes
Nickeil Alexander-Walker
Marcos Louzada Silva
JJ Redick
Cleveland 2020 Protected 1st round pick
FIFY and yes it is amazing to see what having a top of the line FO can do even in a small market

All we can go on right now is the fact that Hayes looked raw but next-level dominant in the summer league.

Hunter looked underwhelmingly average in Sunday nights game in the summer league.
