Man what Griffin got in exchange for the 4th pick is blowing my mind.

What a STEAL by Griffin!
We gave:
4th overall pick (De'Andre Hunter) to Atlanta
We got:
Jaxson Hayes
Nickeil Alexander-Walker
Marcos Louzada Silva
Cleveland 2020 1st round pick

And Hayes is better than Hunter.
Unbelievable.

The trade should be measured against garland in my opinion, as that’s who we would have probably picked. I’m a huge garland fan but now it’s looking like we may come out ahead. Still too much time to know at this point though.

And that Cleveland pick will really be two second rounders.

This pick is top 10 protected so it will very likely turn into 2 future 2nds.

You’re right but I would rather have this haul instead of Garland. Not even close.

None of this happens if AD doesn't ask for a trade

THANK YOU BASED AD

Let’s temper expectations a bit since this was just 1 summer league game.

That being said, Hayes probably had the highest ceiling out of anyone in the draft outside of the top 3 guys. The advance metrics guys seemed to be extremely high on him as well. He also comes from pro athlete pedigree so there are definitely a lot of things to be excited about.

NAW looked extremely smooth and polished but like i said this was just one summer league game.

Can I just remind everyone that most people on this board HATED this trade at first... I too was disappointed we weren’t getting Garland, until I spent some time watching the Hayes and NAW highlight videos!

Cleveland second rounders are high 30s picks which some consider more valuable than low 1sts... So not the end of the world there.

This front office is making people believers, but it's still pretty unnatural for most of us to accept that the Pels FO is actually better than your average armchair GM that posts here.

Everyone needs to slow the F down

I feel like we have many Pels fans who are new to Summer League.

He may very well be better than Hunter, but one Summer League game isn't going to tell you that.

I don’t believe that Garland was ever on their radar. They were very specific in the type of player they went after. Garland doesn’t fit the bill.

Yeah, I am going to be more than happy to eat crow on my draft day predictions, as both players looked phenomenal in their first outings(given their context), but once upon a time, Kris Dunn led all players in scoring during Summer League.

...While guys like Malcolm Brogdon, Dejuante Murray, Buddy Hield, Brandon Ingram, and Pascal Siakam had relatively ho-hum outings. So let's not make careers out of one summer league game yet.

Yeah, we have a limited amount of data now, but it's enough for me to guess that, if the draft were re-run today, Hayes would be drafted at #4 or 5, and NAW would probably be #9 or 10. Didi would be #15-20.

I haven't watched a whole lot of the other summer league games, so I can't say for sure, but I can 100% tell you that a lot Bulls fans were upset about the Coby White vs NAW comparison last night.

NAW IQ is off the charts. He’s shown more in that department in 1 game than a physical talent like Dunn ever shown in his career. That’s the difference in my eyes. And he did it with little to no practice with the squad. He was hitting guys with good passes all night long and in spots that made so much sense too. It’s pretty shocking how much of a natural passer NAW is. There was an interview on Pelicans.com where a guy who watched NAW his entire career in college and didn’t believe that he could play PG in the league even in spurts.

I dont know jack about NBA level bball....but the trade looks sound for our organization if only to "rebrand" us moving forward.

Like any trade/draft pics, time will tell....meaning years from now, but I like the boldness.

Reminds me of Randy Mueller a lifetime ago, remaking the Saints in like 2 weeks through trades and FA.

lets hope this holds better returns long term, but I do like Griffin.

What kind of person would've been mad about the trade?

Josh Hart was incredible just last year. Everyone was excited and saying he was a great fit next to LeBron. Then he sucked last year. Summer League means almost nothing when projecting a player to the NBA. Hell, Fultz looked really good when he played.

It’s absolutely baffling how crazy Pels fans are going after one SL game.

I think it tends to weed out who at least belongs, and can give you some insight into a player's skillsets. I also tend to think that signaling ability tends to decrease as the number of summer leagues a player is in increases. As you tend to learn how to play that league more than demonstrate a general fit for the game.
